I think it has already been announced that Schifrin is working on this film, though I’m pretty sure his score will be rejected (you know, Hollywood and daring choices…).

    >> There were pieces that were pre-existing which were used (the 2001 piece, et al)

That’s a shame, I thought he composed the Macarena. If he didn’t, I don’t see why I still worship the guy !

Mission : Impossible is still for me one of his most brilliant and clever score. I found it at 1 € today in a store and bought it again, just in case ! For the rest, everything he wrote for Burton is a marvel.

I’ve been a fan since Beetlejuice’s Main Title. The luminous town covered with that crazy-dark music always spoke to me in a very subconscious way…

    Oh and : Welcome ! :)

Stanley Kubrick wasn’t happy with many things !
I’m huge SK fan and this “homage” didn’t bother me at all. I even thought it was pretty funny and quite original for a reference in a kids movie. Plus, Burton uses the Strauss’ ouverture with the same sense of rhythm as in 2001…

I think you’re correct Kipobe; I’d suggest to place River Cruise Part 2 between Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee… :)

I don’t see Oingo Boingo coming back togeher neither but he did this “1. how could Danny Elfman be able to be with oingo boingo and have to do scores?” during 10 years, so that’s not really the problem.

What about isolated tracks or Danny’s commentary ? When the SE were supposed to be released two years ago, I read about it many times but these new announcements don’t mention them anymore. It would be really nice…

No, they are just very short songs ! I think only Augustus Gloop’s song is a bit longer on the cd but only because the intro is more gradual.

I’ll eventualy receive the cd tomorrow, thanks to a friend who is coming back from Canada with it. Man, I had to use trickery to get this one…

I still don’t have it. If it’s not there tomorrow, it will be at least for next wednesday (an that’s if I’m lucky). I guess that’s the price to pay to have seen the film twice already.

Seriously, Warner Bros doesn’t seem to care much about film music…

    It’s a good ending ! ;)
The end of the book wasn’t dense enough for a film so they’ve added like 10 minutes that are really amazing…

Apparently, Warner Bros doesn’t know how to sell film music; it’s the same problem here in Europe and it happened with the Batman Begins score as well. They sure don’t know what they’re doing…

That’s specious reasoning BigDaddy : you know some people will find the link here and download the entire score so they won’t have to pay for it. Sure, WE’ll buy this cd but you know how fast a link can travel on the Internet.
I’m not all against mp3 downloading (it actually allows a good circulation of all kinds of music) but Ryan repeated many times he doesn’t want to see illegal links around here and it would be nice to respect that.
Also, the tracks he proposes are often in bad quality (96 kbps) which is a good way to discover a track but an awful one to listen to it. If the clip is a preview, there’s nothing illegal about that.

I’m a bit pis*** off by your post : Ryan was trying to make a nice little announcement of the score and you people come here like “Hey guys, I got the entire score already; I’m so smart !”. Everyone can press the “Download” button, even a monkey can do that; but apparently, not everyone can actually make a event out of a simple little thing like a cd, with inventive ideas and funny teasing.

Sorry to sound sappy but I can’t stand people whose only pleasure is to ruin everbody else’s.

If they didn’t get Depp’s interpretation of the role I wonder how they actually understood the film. Those two will always make me laugh…
