Here’s the full answer :
“It will depend on Sam, on the conclusions we will take about this crazy month (May 2004) and on my wishes for the new movie. If everybody speaks the same language, I might be on Spider-Man 3”.
Edward BloomParticipantI know a Spider-Fan who won’t be happy…
Edward BloomParticipantEdward Grieg
Edward BloomParticipantI wonder though : Danny’s original piece has a slightly different orchestration than the current version. It changed around season 4 or 5, I don’t remember. I guess Clausen is behind that modification. Am I wrong ?
By the way, it’s common knowledge that the theme was actually written by John Williams…
Edward BloomParticipant“doh” ? A Simpson reference ?
Edward BloomParticipantThere are programs to transfer minidisc tracks to your computer. I would be glad to host them for everyone to download. If you’re interested or have questions, mail me.
Alright, it ain’t very legal but we all know we’ll run in stores when an official recording will be released.Edward BloomParticipantHe does speak of Danny’s music during the first transformation and the setup for the finale, when they bring Nolte to Bana (impressive music by the way). He actually is pretty enthusiast in a non-“promotional talk” way…
Edward BloomParticipantTwo very important (and very reliable) french websites proposed a news today about upcoming special editions of the first four films, so I guess it’s almost official now. The bad news is that one of them mentionned that only the first film will be released on its own; to get Batman Returns SE, we’ll have to buy the entire set with Batman 3 & 4….
Edward BloomParticipantI’m with Spider-Fan on this : I can’t say I’m overexcited about these projects, I mean, in a cinematographic point of view. Of course, they could provide very interesting scores but I’m not sure they’ll turn out to be masterpieces.
Nevertheless, who am I to judge films that haven’t been shot yet; I may be completely wrong (wouldn’t be the first time)…Edward BloomParticipantI love the “Win an Airbus” contest…
Edward BloomParticipantHappy, Happy, Happy ! Wait….I won’t be there…..Sad, Sad, Sad !
Edward BloomParticipantI agree with you Spider-Fan and wanted to ask you guys about it. We may be wrong of course (there’s nothing sure about this score) but I remember saying here that Debney’s variations on the Spidey theme (when he appears for the first time in the film) were so close to Danny’ style that it was almost disturbing. The rhythm given by the strings, the way the theme is developped, the notable addition of percussions, all those elements were reminding so much of Danny’s work for these films that I thought that Debney did very very well with that part of the pizza sequence.
Now, with the original cue played in the making-of, I’m pretty sure that when Spider-Man appears, it’s Elfman. A little relief I must say…Nevertheless, there’s still the train sequence and the wonderful variation he wrote for Spider-Man’s second fall, after the reception. Really frustrating…
December 4, 2004 at 10:52 am in reply to: Attention:Danny Elfman Carnegie Hall Concert and Concert Works #52908Edward BloomParticipantDanny will present an original piece at the Carnegie, not a compilation of his works.
And I highly doubt we’ll get a dvd for this…Edward BloomParticipantMaybe with a camera and a huge hat…
Edward BloomParticipantLol….”irony” is one of the things that’s hard to apply to the Internet (and we don’t have many smileys here to help out). Sorry if you’ve felt offended by my sermon, I won’t do it again.
Edward BloomParticipantBECAUSE IT’S NOT A REMAKE !!!
Sorry but some things seem hard to understand…Psycho is an exception : Van Sant’s film is more an essay about cinema and its evolution than a remake of Hitchcock’s classic, a piece of contemporary art that would have more it’s place in a museum rather than theater.
How the movie is shot and edited is what tells you that this film is a Tim Burton film, a Raimi film or a Jarmusch one. Of course, there are the sets, costumes, actors, etc. but its the ability of the director to tell the story with the right frames, the right movements, in the smartest order that will make the movie a good one or a bad one. Reshooting the same film shot by shot would be pure plagiarism…
De Palma often turned average scripts into true masterpieces, only thanks to his amazing director skills.Anoher thing : I discovered the original film recently (it’s completely unknown in Europe) and though I perfectly understand that Americans have a special bond with this film, most of you growing with it, it isn’t Barry Lyndon, there are many things that can be improved here…
Edward BloomParticipantI’m pretty sure it’s not a fake. Dark Horizons is reliable website and the are really accurate elements (font of the credits, curves in the sky, etc.). And it IS Johhny Depp…
Edward BloomParticipantI think he mentionned the name of Herrmann in an interview but it was a long time ago. October 2004 or something…
Edward BloomParticipantWe can post images now ?? That’s great…
Anyway, I love this teaser poster. Simple but very burtonish, in a beetle-martian way…October 31, 2004 at 5:41 pm in reply to: Zey seek ‘im ‘ere… the Danny Elfman post-Spidy2 interview #52693Edward BloomParticipant“Elfman therefore re-contacted Sony and ‘told them where to go.”
I read the interview again and this is the only error I found but a pretty important one. In French, the sentence (J’ai donc recontré les gens de chez Sony et je leur ai dit d’aller se…) is intentionally cut because what Elfman actually means is : “I met the people at Sony and told them to f*** off…”
They didn’t want to put that on paper I guess…October 30, 2004 at 5:06 pm in reply to: Zey seek ‘im ‘ere… the Danny Elfman post-Spidy2 interview #52692Edward BloomParticipantI’m surprised this topic doesn’t get more replies…
October 28, 2004 at 9:23 pm in reply to: Zey seek ‘im ‘ere… the Danny Elfman post-Spidy2 interview #52688Edward BloomParticipant‘Danny Elfman ne laisse pas Tobey!’ = Danny Elfman does not leave Tobey
It’s more : “Danny, don’t let Tobey down !” (it’s a play on words on the verb “to let down” that is close to “Tobey” in French…well, if you have a pretty imaginative mind !).
Anyway, great translation. I’m amazed by the accuracy of it (not only the meaning but the sentences that are very close to what I read in the original interview). I prefer not to think of the time you spend on this…
Great job…
Edward BloomParticipantI’ve seen the movie in theater 6 months ago and I instantly thought that it was very close (too close?) to Danny’s style indeed. The moment we hear the boys’ choir, the image shows a school covered with snow; hard not to think of Edward Scissorhands…
Hopefully, the rest of Coulais’ score doesn’t go on in that direction; it’s mainly for the sequence I mention.By the way, the soundtrack is a huge hit in France and Belgium so the boys’ choir is still a pretty popular style…
Edward BloomParticipantBlunt :
I was the one who brought up the interview here and I will translate the most interesting parts this week-end if I got time. French is my langage so it’s going to easier this way…
