Zimmer’s doing DA VINCI CODE? So what tiff did Ron Howard and James Horner have? I saw that Thomas Newman did CINDERELA MAN.

    Anybody know?

So was Jon Amiel a fan of what Elfman did? I wonder, seeing how he has chosen not to work with him since. Interesting notes on SOMMERSBY though, I think his music is quite good on that one….

Has Elfman ever had a rejected score?

Yeah, I’d say it’s bullsh*t to. And wasn’t Danny brought on board to MISSION IMPOSSIBLE after Alan Silvestri’s score was rejected? Elfman was Tom Cruise’s choice, not De Palma’s . Cruise and DePalma did nothing but fight through the entire movie, so who knows if DePalma even liked working with Elfman, he probably gave up at that point…..

    From imdb:

This is probably the lamest installment in the “Santo” series, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun! Once again, the good and noble Santo must battle mad scientists, monsters and evil masterminds before their terrible plans to take over the world come to fruition! There’s a mummy, a werewolf, a vampire and his seductive assistant, a hunchbacked midget, a really stupid looking cyclops and a pretty blond girlfriend for our hero to save from them all. There’s even an evil clone of the Blue Demon! It’s almost sacrilege to watch these two loyal buddies kick the crap out of each other!!! The plot is threadbare, the make-up effects are AWFUL, but who cares? It’s all about Santo giving the smackdown to some bad guys, both in and out of the wrestling ring. There’s no gore, no nudity or sex, just lots and lots of silly butt-kicking fun. In my opinion, there’s no such thing as a BAD Santo movie. There’s just cheesy, cheesier and cheesiest. This is the cheesiest, but that’s what makes it great. Santo fans should NOT miss this one.

I almost have a hard time thinking that he’s doing it just for the money. Otherwise we’d of seen the ever popular NACHO LIBRE THEME by Danny Elfman. Additional score by John Debney. He he he. No, I think there’s something else here that got him interested, something that makes me now interested to see the film.

Besides, I love Mexican Wrestling films, and perhaps this is Danny’s chance to do the closest thing to a SANTO film. And if you have not seen SANTO AND THE BLUE DEMON VERSUS THE MONSTERS you simply have not seen a mexican wrestling/horror movie

    Huh???

Now I remember when listening to Elfman in the radio interview for LA’s Classical radio station back in December that he hates doing comedies. In fact he said something like “I’m the most unhappiest when doing things like this. I just don’t know what to do with a comedy” I’m paraphrasing of course.

I wonder what interested him? Working with Jarred Hess? Doing a spanish based score? Or just doing a quickie gig that required little from him creatively, and just have some fun?

I’ll bet it was the last one…

Anyway, I’m excited to hear it.

Maybe it was Elfman who wanted to do something else?

Sounds interesting. I love how Van Sant bounces around from movies like ELEPHANT and GERRY to stuff like this. I’d love to see him work with Danny again, but after a no-show on FINDING FORESTER (a surprisingly good movie) I’ve given up hope on another collaboration.

I guess we’ll see. Anyone know why they never did anything else together again after PSYCHO? Did Gus dislike Elfman using Herrmann’a music? Anyone? Ryan, your always full of good stories you never share with us. What’s the scoop?

    THANK GOD!!!!!

And as much as I love Elfman, Alf Clausen should do it…..

And now it sounds like MEET THE ROBINSONS will be delayed yet again.

    AT LAST!!

Thanks for the heads up, I love Bernstein’s music. One of my faves is THE WORLD OF HENRY ORIENT – FSM’s CD is great. Let’s hope they continue the string of his comedy music: TRADING PLACES, AIPRPLANE!, ANIMAL HOUSE, etc. I’m on the lookout for it now….

BATMAN BEINGS? As in BEING JOHN MALKOVICH? I must have missed that movie – who starred in it and what was the music like?

Wow. Makes me feel even more depressed about my career….

Keep up the good work Ryan. PAing is tough work. I did some PA work once – for free. The producer was a total bitch. I told her this is not how you treat free workers and I left them hanging. To this day, that little project has not been finished. Its so much more rewarding to do struff on your own, which is the way I hope to keep it.

    Say le vee.

You know, I’ve only met the man once – and I was VERY intimidated. Something about his charecter in NIGHTBREED that just struck me at the moment when we met.

It looked like a fun set to work on – in spite of the subject matter. Viggo appeared to be quite a lot of fun too. Cronenberg told me about a script he was re-writing called PAIN KILLERS – it sounded great and typical of his work. Can’t wait to see it! But what’s with all these other peoples movies he’s been making lately? Oh well, no matter what he does – it’s always great…..

Do you think that when you can see the animators fingerprints imprinted in the clay, it diminishes Wallace and Grommit’s supremacy somewhat?

What?!?!?! That’s like dismissing a piece of art work cause you can see brush strokes! C’mon….

Yes, I think WALLACE AND GROMMIT was a better film. Better animation and better story, thus better film

As much as I loved CORPSE BRIDE, after just 15 minuted into WALLACE AND GROMMIT – I knew they’d win the Oscar. Ans with all due respect, W&G was a better animated movie.

But yes, yes, yes……The Oscars blew.

And note to Lauren Bacall – SHOW UP FOR REHEARSALS NEXT TIME!

I kind of figured as much too, but it’s always good to get a second opinion. Since were on the topic of composers missing from their directors films – I always wished Elfman would have done Raimi’s QUICK AND THE DEAD. Can you imagine an Elfman western?

What a dull list of music score noms. All Williams has to do is break wind and he’ll get nomintated – seriously…

    Oh well. I’ll still watch.

Don’t quote me, but I believe it was Mark Mothersbaugh – I know he did some music score for the show like Elfman. Also, Cindy Lauper sings the theme….

Man, this is such old news – Burton was linked to this movie after ED WOOD, then he vanished from the project. I see it’s rearing it’s ugly head again. Frankly, I can see him doing a version of the Sweeny Todd strory (their is a low-budget film out their I believe from the 60’s) bu the idea of doing the Broadway musical seems so anti-Burton. And whatever happend to that BATMAN broadway play he was supposedly to direct? Exactly. I say this is all fluff….

Bring on BELIEVE IT OR NOT.

Frankly, I just hope he stays away from remakes. I was dreading the thought of Burton linking himself to John Augusts remake script of BARBARELLA he wrote for Drew Barrymore’s film company years ago. I hope that film never gets made…
