It would help if we knew which ONE YEAR this is… IMDB has 3 projects title that… one from 1997, 2009 & 2010. Which one is it?

The best thing about Robots was the music. Great score by John Powell along with Blue Man Group!

How about having members to this site contribute some content?… I actually helped out with Film Score Monthly when they first started taking reader contributions for their site and even wrote reviews for their paid online magazine. It is an easy way to get content without any time, money or effort on your part Ryan. I’m sure there are people who frequent this board who could contribute or even take on assignments. What do you think?

I pretty much use this board and it’s one of only two that I even waste my time to write on. I LOVE the fact that we Elfmaniacs all have a forum like this and have follow some of my fellow Elfmanites forays into music and other endevors. I’ve had friends come and go on this site, and I consider this a social network just for us… It would be sad to see the forum go, so I would say this is what I love the most and I just have a hearty THANK YOU for you, Ryan! Bravo!

LaLaLand Records usually has a new avatar appear on FSM forums every now and then that is a hint to a future release… this is not the first time.

Is this the firs time since Batman Returns that Burton has work with Pfeiffer?

SAE I thought had IRIS for 13.98?

What do you mean a reasonable price? They have Taking Woodstock for $4.98 and Mars Attacks for $9.98. Both of the 2CD scores of Batman and Batman Returns are $29.98 which is less per disc than Scrooged. Don’t tell me you think those were overpriced? I can understand you saying that about the Burton/Elfman Box, but not any of these… I would have paid more for any of these scores (and in the case of Taking Woodstock and Mars Attacks, I did). I consider LaLaLand Records one of the best film score exclusive record companies.

Just saw “The Muppets” tonight and have to agree with you… if “Man or Muppet” doesn’t get nominated, it would be a shame. Here’s a song that is both emotional and funny at the same time – there’s nothing better! As for best score so far this year that I’ve heard… “War Horse” should get a nomination and not just because it’s Williams – It’s a damn fine score (better than “Tintin” when heard outside the film). “Super 8” by Giacchino was a good score I’ve listened to many times since it was released. Two dark horse scores would be The Chemical Brothers score for “Hanna” (works wonderful in the film – much like last years winner “Social Network”) & “Mildred Pierce” by Carter Burwell – a very lovely little chamber score with great woodwind passages. I’ve liked what I’ve heard from Howard Shores “Hugo” and I would have to say the superhero score I loved the most this year was Alan Silvestri’s “Captain America”. Now here’s a couple that won’t get nominated but in my world they would… first is my most favorite Patrick Doyle score of the year (and the others he’s done haven’t been that bad) “Jig” – I just can’t resist those Irish influences! The next score was just pure fun when I saw the film and now as I’ve listened to it away from the film… “Your Highness” went in not expecting much and was given a good fantasy romp of a score! I would like to say that despite the Elfman needle drop I enjoyed what Zimmer and company did for “Rango” – probably the best animated film score this year (and film, with Kung-Fu Panda 2 being close). Those are a few of my non-Elfman picks this year! Please be gentle.

While lacking the development of Serenada Schizophrana it does contain it’s exuberance in spades! Loved every minute of it!

The following is from an interview with Shawn Levy about the music in Reel Steal (mostly soundtrack info)…

“I called up Crystal Method, I’m like, ‘Come to my editing room,’ I showed them the fight scenes and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah we got this, we got this,’ and then they were like ‘Can we see more?’ and so I showed them some of the more underdog kind of rousing emotional scenes, and they were like ‘Why are we fucking getting emotional at a fucking robot movie?’…But anyway they wrote two different songs, one is the introduction to Noisy Boy who is our kind of Japanese Bot, that’s a song called ‘Bring the Noise’ that is great…and then, this was fascinating, they wrote a piece of music for Round 1 of Zeus vs. Atom, which is the climactic fight, and it worked pretty well, as a track it worked great. But we mix it on the movie, and I’m like ‘Shit, all of Crystal Method’s sounds are in exactly the same pitch as the robot sound effects,’ so the result was you couldn’t hear it. So then what happened is Crystal Method basically did a kind of collaboration with Danny Elfman, who wrote an overlay on top of the Crystal Method track, so what’s in the movie is this weird unexpected Danny Elfman/Crystal Method duet that works exceptionally well.”

Full interview can be read and also a video interview seen here:

    Hey boingomusic,

Thanks for the piece and as a piano player I have to agree, of all the digital piano’s I’ve tried, Yamaha always had the better pure piano sound.

… also seeing how their last efforts were both recognized by the Academy. But then again UP didn’t receive a CD release until well after it WON the Oscar for best score. Download-Only versions of scores seems to be the way of the future (sad but true) so I think that even if we don’t see a hard copy release of this score then a download version will eventually be available – especially with Elfman’s reputation.

I would expect to see a score release from Varese Sarabande on this one.

I was commenting on the sound quality of Edward and not what was extra. To me, this is one of the biggest reasons I love the set – the remastering of the music that I’ve listened to on CD for years!

I have to say of the CDs I’ve heard so far the one that sounds the best compared to the regular release is EDWARD (and it’s the CDs I’m listening to, not the MP3s)! And while I’ve only made it through half the book, the score I would like to see expanded upon LaLaLand style is Dick Tracy… in the book there’s mention of a lot of rerecording, and rescoring of tracks as the film was re-cut several times – that would make a nice disc with several alternate tracks.

i Feel I’ve gotten my money’s worth already and I’m still only half-way through with the book and have listened to half of the CDs!

I’ve started to read the book and so far it’s been a great read! Also I’ve decided to watch the corresponding movie after each of the chapters and just watched PEE-WEE last night. Reading the book has added more to the viewing than just the commentaries… just a suggestion.

I didn’t have a problem copying all the files at once and uploading them into itunes… one weird thing is the fact that the invoice for the USB part of the project is on the USB drive. Not sure that was supposed to be left on there.

As someone who was mentioned in the book, I feel sorry for you being left out of the Thanks section… also my enthusiasm couldn’t be higher… we actually took some time off at my office to look at everything and listen to some of the music. Still can’t wait to get it home!
