KeymasterLet’s just face it — EDWARD is so damn good, it makes everything that much better.
Whether it be Nissans, Disneyland, cold medicine, Casper or Lemony Snicket!

KeymasterThe GLORY connection is something I don’t agree with.
Horner’s “Burning The Town of Darien” from GLORY specifically qoutes Ralph (my favorite classical composer – I strongly urge everyone to explore his music!!) Vaughn Williams’ “Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis”. That theme in GLORY appears only once — in that single cue.
It is the Vaughn Williams piece which I think Debney is also qouting. Afterall, listening to “Fantasia” it’s easy to evoke the complicated emotions of the Crucifixion.
Just to show how prepared I am, below is a clip (the piece runs almost 16 minutes in length — this is a snippet of two excerpts) from the Vaughn Williams piece to show you just where Horner got his idea!
“Fantastia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis” (Excerpt)
I’d believe that before believing that GLORY was on the temp track.

KeymasterHere are some clips from “Elf” and “The Polar Express”. Make sure to right click and save as, because these won’t be here forever.
“Elf” Clip 1 – Big statement of “Buddy’s Theme”, similiar to first half of “The Polar Express” main theme.
“Elf” Clip 2 – “Buddy’s Theme” scaled down similiar to the next clip…
“The Polar Express” Clip 1 – First half of theme is remarkably similiar to “Elf” theme.
“The Polar Express” Clip 2 – Reminds me of “Edward Scissorhands”, even has it’s own well-timed crescendo, finishes with an Edward-ian choir.

KeymasterKatie – the score for ELF was released on Varese Sarabande.

KeymasterThere is a strange similarity between the main “gooey” theme from ELF (first hear when Buddy traverses the mountaintop as he treks to New York City) and the main theme from POLAR EXPRESS. If you get your hands on the POLAR EXPRESS promo tracks, you’ll hear one cue in particular that sounds very much like EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. I’ll post a clip if there is any interest.

KeymasterYes. It’s a great photo. One no one has seen, taken by my good friend, John Mullin.

KeymasterI’m hoping by the time that CHARLIE is in theaters the redesign will be complete. Unfortunately that means goodbye to the familiar smiling Elfman face.

KeymasterSo far, no plans for a CD release

KeymasterI have that set (for the Elfman commentary only – not a fan of the tame film) and will add those clips as well. So far I have APES (plus the MTV segment, thanks to Pammy) and SPIDER-MAN ready to go. I’ve broken them down to multiple files around 1 min in length so downloading is quicker. Unfortunately (for some) I encoded the first files as Windows Media Player files, but I’m considering Quicktime. It’s all about bandwidth, since in ’05 I will have to start spending $$ to maintain this site.

KeymasterLovely — thanks! A nice read.

KeymasterThe helicopter sequence was written by Jonathan Sheffer and if I remember correctly it sort of skirts away from any full blown statements of Elfman’s theme, but orchestrationally is inline with the rest of the score.

KeymasterDanny — I will be adding video clips from the various DVDs that feature Elfman interviews as well as scoring session footage. If you already have these DVDs, the videos won’t be much of a surprise, but for other casual surfers I think they’ll be a lot of fun.

KeymasterMike this site has been around technically since 1996. It really became a real serious site in ’97.

KeymasterHoward Shore liked Elfman’s SPIDER-MAN 2 when I played it for him. So, in some ways, he is a buddy.

KeymasterBenoit — isn’t that your job to analyze the piece?
Good luck on your exam.

KeymasterI’m not sure to be honest. I’ve considered going to the concert, but to hear it only once would drive me mad… And if it did come out on CD, the effort to get to NYC only to be able to hear it on CD layer… Would drive me mad!

KeymasterIt is from Danny Elfman’s score. It’s on the BATMAN RETURNS album. Go ahead and buy it and I’ll point out which track.
