WOW
Ryan
Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterThere is a strange similarity between the main “gooey” theme from ELF (first hear when Buddy traverses the mountaintop as he treks to New York City) and the main theme from POLAR EXPRESS. If you get your hands on the POLAR EXPRESS promo tracks, you’ll hear one cue in particular that sounds very much like EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. I’ll post a clip if there is any interest.

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterYes. It’s a great photo. One no one has seen, taken by my good friend, John Mullin.

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterI’m hoping by the time that CHARLIE is in theaters the redesign will be complete. Unfortunately that means goodbye to the familiar smiling Elfman face.

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterSo far, no plans for a CD release

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterI have that set (for the Elfman commentary only – not a fan of the tame film) and will add those clips as well. So far I have APES (plus the MTV segment, thanks to Pammy) and SPIDER-MAN ready to go. I’ve broken them down to multiple files around 1 min in length so downloading is quicker. Unfortunately (for some) I encoded the first files as Windows Media Player files, but I’m considering Quicktime. It’s all about bandwidth, since in ’05 I will have to start spending $$ to maintain this site.

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterLovely — thanks! A nice read.

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterThe helicopter sequence was written by Jonathan Sheffer and if I remember correctly it sort of skirts away from any full blown statements of Elfman’s theme, but orchestrationally is inline with the rest of the score.

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterDanny — I will be adding video clips from the various DVDs that feature Elfman interviews as well as scoring session footage. If you already have these DVDs, the videos won’t be much of a surprise, but for other casual surfers I think they’ll be a lot of fun.

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterMike this site has been around technically since 1996. It really became a real serious site in ’97.

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterMordred is an Arthurian legend name I think.
Ryan
Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterHoward Shore liked Elfman’s SPIDER-MAN 2 when I played it for him. So, in some ways, he is a buddy.
Ryan
Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterLOL.
I thought the same thing.
Love that show.

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterBenoit — isn’t that your job to analyze the piece?
Good luck on your exam.

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterI’m not sure to be honest. I’ve considered going to the concert, but to hear it only once would drive me mad… And if it did come out on CD, the effort to get to NYC only to be able to hear it on CD layer… Would drive me mad!
Ryan
Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterI think also the fact that he is working in London might help.

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterJust to keep everyone from getting confused. Thanks!

Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterIt’d be great to see Michael Keaton regain his deserved good cred. I’m going to see WHITE NOISE when it opens to support the guy, despite the fact that I am weary it’s a piece of crap!
Ryan
Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterI ordered the book from Amazon.com and it’s fantastic. It actually carves a pretty wide path around Elfman’s BATMAN score, first going through his entry to film scoring, his influences, his relationship with Burton, and a history of BATMAN on film, before moving into the score itself. The theory never gets too deep (although there is deconstruction of the major themes), and the author, Janet K. Halfyard, always relates each idea in the score back to the film and what it’s trying to do.
It’s a book about Danny Elfman’s BATMAN score. What more do you need!?!?
Ryan
Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterHe wrote music for the sequence, but it may not have been used in it’s entirety.
Ryan
Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterYou may very well be right, Thor. I get a ton of emails each year from people who are using Elfman’s music in their films and want to know if they can e-mail him to get permission(!!!)
The inclusion of copywritten, non-original music, in a film usually disqualifies it from festival showings…
