ParticipantWelcome! Try looking through the posts and you’ll discover what we do around here. There’s always something to talk about concerning Danny Elfman.

ParticipantUm…..you can’t.

ParticipantI don’t own an XBox so I never played Fable, but if they adapted it into a movie and allowed Danny to expand upon the main theme he wrote, I think there would be something very interesting there.

ParticipantTHANKS!!! Listening right now.

ParticipantI may have posted at SHH a long time ago, but not in many months. That site is a bookmark I visit several times daily.
As for Nov 8, that’s a good date for DVD release. I would have done Halloween for marketing purposes, but a week after ain’t bad.

ParticipantWho’s going to sit through the entirety of that debacle of a movie to find that music? I’m sorry I really hated that movie. JNH was the only thing that kept me interested in the time I had to spend watching Jeremy Sumpter lisp through the entire film in the title role.

ParticipantBest guess is the DVD will be released in mid to late November, based on DVD release dates of the movies that came out the same time last summer. We could also be lucky and WB could release it around Halloween!

ParticipantI’m pretty sure they used “Edward Scissorhands” as a temp score for the atrocious “Haunted Mansion.” Another thought crossed my mind as to fantasy scores, and the preciously mentioned collaboration with Terry Gilliam. If Danny scored “Brothers Grimm,” I think it would probably sound like Fable with some Sleepy Hollow mixed in.

ParticipantI had the misfortune of having misplaced my CD, which had the lyrics printed in the insert. Good thing I transferred everything to my MP3 player already.

ParticipantFor a movie like this where the music is such an important factor, I imagine the music featurettes will be quite extensive on the DVD.

ParticipantIMDb calls him “Hollywood’s hottest composer.” Plus Tim Burton isn’t the only director Danny works with. Brett Ratner, Gus Van Sant, (formerly) Sam Raimi. He’d make it on his own for sure. He’s already been snatched for two films for directors he’s never worked with before!

ParticipantI’d like to see him score “Spider-Man 3.” I still weep at his departure. As for new projects, I’d love to see him return to the hardcore action genre after his next two scheduled movies for 2006. He’s said before that he doesn’t like scoring action, but I think its where his best comes out. I would have been interested if John Williams decided not to score “War of the Worlds” and Danny Elfman stepped in. There would have been huge potential there, possibly as a counter-score to “Mars Attacks!” and “Men in Black.” It would also be nice to hear something like “Fable,” which felt like an interesting new style for him.

ParticipantThat was James Venable, right? No offense to him, he’s not a bad composer, just those projects aren’t in his category of scoring. Anyway I’ve heard that Hans Zimmer was signed on to score the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels. I was disappointed at first because I liked Klaus Badelt’s score, but then I realized there won’t be much difference with Zimmer. After all, he worked on the first one. As for this Mike Adams guy, it’s probably another IMDb user error. Probably submitted by someone names Mike Adams who wanted recognition.

ParticipantI didn’t realize Touchstone released Dick Tracy, so therefore Disney would own the music. Now what’s really confusing is why the main titles from “Beetlejuice” play outside the Atlantis ride at Sea World Orlando.

ParticipantI’ve started to thoroughly enjoy “Remains of the Day.” It’s got the playfullness of the “Charlie” songs, plus it reminds me of the old but awesome “Disney’s Halloween” special they used to play every year (for those who might remember, it was comprised of several scary/creepy classic cartoons, like a storm at a windmill and Mickey, Donald and Goofy as a ghost hunting squad). And I think “The Wedding Song” is going to sound very good once it’s put to a real orchestra. I still don’t get much out of “Tears to Shed” and “According to Plan.” They sound too much like Disney numbers. Hey, just because he’s my favorite composer doesn’t mean I have to like everything he writes.

ParticipantI hate to say this, but I think this is bound to be my least favorite of Danny Elfman’s “musicals.” I just watched “Nightmare” again today and I’ve been listening to the “Charlie” soundtrack, and after hearing those songs I’m just not that excited after the “Corpse Bride” songs. They sound less unique than Danny’s other stuff, although his vocals are always awesome. It was pretty clear that a lot of the stuff was demo, but I just didn’t hear as much as I had expected, score portions included. Of course the movie’s still a month away and the complete score is probably going to amaze once again, so my judgement may come too early. Don’t kill me please. I still think the whole movie looks cool!

ParticipantJoby Talbot (“Hitchhiker’s Guide”) from The Divine Comedy.
I don’t know if this “BT” guy counts.
Mick Jagger worked on “Alfie.”
And who can forget…Randy Newman.

ParticipantThe burning building cue from Spider-Man (and reused in Spider-Man 2) is really good. And speaking of Hellraiser, I happened to be watching SNL’s Best of Christopher Walken, and in a skit from the early ’90s mocking his “Dead Zone” role, they play that Chris Young Hellraiser 2 music. I was pleasantly surprised.

ParticipantI once again want to stress how awesome I think the heavy portion of “The Golden Ticket/Factory” is, from 0:50 to 1:07. It’s the part that’s included in the soundclip on this site. It’s still my favorite part of the entire score. I was just listening to it over and over and I can’t get over how good it is!
Spider-Fan
ParticipantYeah, Schifrin is scoring it. Personally I wanted John Ottman to come back for it. X2 was not only his best score in my opinion, but one of the better action scores in recent times. Plus he’s a cool guy…you can contact him at his website and he takes time to respond!

ParticipantThis may sound dumb, but was the source material really from a 3 year-old retard? I ask this in all seriousness because Robert Rodriguez’s expensive, bad CG-filled “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D” was based on a dream his 7 year-old son named Racer had one night after watching — what else — Spider-Man. It’s a damn shame, some people like myself work hard on good screenplays that don’t get looked at. Anyway, concerning “Charlotte’s Web,” it may be based on a classic but it may not get that type of treatment. Look at Disney’s “Around the World in 80 Days” (although I thought that was a very good, stylish movie), the point being that serious classics aren’t taken as seriously by filmmakers nowadays.
Side note: Knowing Danny, I think the cue that will play when Charlotte’s first web message appears will be fantastic. Also, let’s hope they don’t get cocky and make the web messages something like internet postings.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantYou fool! Now you’ve summoned him to commit acts of mischief!
Spider-Fan
ParticipantI don’t think “Charlotte’s Web” better things. Sure, he’ll have a very good score written for it, but I don’t look forward to seeing the movie based on the cast, director, and the fact that it’s another CG talking animal movie. Does anyone remember “Racing Stripes”?!
Spider-Fan
ParticipantI too got into Danny’s music after Spider-Man. Funny what that score does to people! Anyways some of my favorites are Sleepy Hollow, Men in Black, Batman Returns, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
