There’s some Alexander Nevsky in Darkman, as well. Good stuff.
D-BoParticipantI was at this meeting; here’s a pic of the panel in this article displaying all the major composers on board with unionization. (Not my pic; a bit blurry.)
The content of Monday’s meeting was certainly much better organized, more clear and concise than the one back in November. There was just way too much on the table then. To make things very simple and narrow our focus to “benefits only” is a much better strategy, and I think I’m on board with that. The fact that Elfman — a huge inspiration to me — is supporting this approach to unionization makes me more comfortable with the idea.
D-BoParticipantRyan and Descent: You guys are the devil.
D-BoParticipantX-Men: The Last Stand was an awesome score. Probably my favorite of 2006.
D-BoParticipantThe only other thing I can pick out is, “It’s such a long, long way to fall…”
D-BoParticipantI’ll be honest, I wasn’t terribly excited about the movie before.
Now I’m excited.
D-BoParticipantSounds awesome! Feb 23 couldn’t come soon enough.
That clip from “Traveling Montage” is interesting; it’s got the theme from 9 in there.
D-BoParticipantIf I’m recognizing correctly the instrument(s) you’re referring to, I’m pretty sure it’s part of a Gamelan ensemble. Check out the Wikipedia entry and this video example. Hope that helps!
D-BoParticipantPersonally, I’m shocked at how much buzz there is about this alleged “demo” track, and how people can’t tell that this is not Elfman’s work. I really thought the fans knew his stuff better than that. I guess I was wrong.
D-BoParticipantWow, seriously? It sounds to me like somebody else doing Elfman, maybe some library music. I expect much better than that from the man himself.
D-BoParticipantSpider-Man 4? WTF?
They’re at an exhibit featuring Tim Burton. Why didn’t they ask him to talk about — oh, I don’t know — Alice in Wonderland, maybe?
D-BoParticipant“Dogs,” Standard Operating Procedure. Gotta love that minor third ostinato kick Elfman’s been on for the last half-dozen or so scores.
D-BoParticipantAnyone else go to this? The concert, overall, was really awesome, but I thought the Nightmare Overture was the weakest of the bunch, unfortunately. Apparently, Danny was there, but I didn’t see him. Richard Kraft was floating around here and there, though.
D-BoParticipantSweet! My former school chancellor conducting + Elfman = win. And a friend of mine helped with the arrangement of the Overture for this concert!
D-BoParticipantGeared towards kids? The movie’s PG-13. Some of the imagery is pretty darn frightening. Not that it matters much because parents are gonna take their kids anyway, just because it’s an animated film.
And I wish I went to your theater! The one I go to in my hometown always turns the volume way up to the ear-bleeding level.
D-BoParticipantAh, I see. That first one, the “Deluxe Edition,” is just a smishing together of the various artists’ album…

… and the score album, so I don’t think we’re missing anything by getting the score album alone.
D-BoParticipantCommenting on that “At the Movies” review elfboy91 linked to: “…Danny Elfman’s score blaring…”?
Uhh…no.
D-BoParticipantDeborah Lurie, hands down. She’s already worked with Elfman on several projects, including Deep Sea 3D and Wanted, and she wrote some additional music for Spider-Man 3. She’s also apparently working with Elfman’s themes for 9.
D-BoParticipantPhew! Good thing I had mine pre-ordered.
D-BoParticipantWoohoo! My copies of Terminator: Salvation and the new Mars Attacks! release will both be waiting for me when I get back from a trip next week. Definitely something to look forward to!
D-BoParticipantWow, I’m almost sorry I posted this! Didn’t mean to get y’all riled up.
As for me, I guess by now I just kind of expect the mainstream’s basic ignorance of the world of film music. *shrug*
D-BoParticipantHappy birthday, and many more to ya!
D-BoParticipantAgreed. I’d watch it for Elfman’s score. Otherwise, the film is just a little overly “cutesy.”
D-BoParticipantAlrighty, here I go…

Forbidden ZoneD-BoParticipantI dunno. It seems to me to be a little early for any of the score to be done, considering its release isn’t ’til September. If it is the actual score, it might be a sampled mock-up.
