Looks (or sounds, rather) like the official website has some of Elfman’s score looping in the background.
D-BoParticipantD-BoParticipantAlso, why did Harry not go completely insane and develop multiple personalities when he used the performance enhancers like his father did in the first film?
D-BoParticipantI think you pretty much said it, Spider-Fan. I don’t think I disliked it quite as much, but I’m going to agree with your analysis, for the most part.
D-BoParticipantZimmer at #1?
Oh, pardon me, I think a little throw-up came into my mouth.
D-BoParticipantDude, this is awesome. I’m actually doing a paper on Bernard Herrmann for my 20th Century Music History class. Thank you so much.
D-BoParticipantThat’s not an operating system issue, Nemesis. Whether you’re on Mac, Windows, or Linux wouldn’t matter as far as web sites go. Going to the same web site on different OS’s would not produce different results.
D-BoParticipantAre you serious? I know col legno is used a lot; I do listen to lots of film scores, but except for this one game that I was talking about, I’d never heard this particular sound that seemed fairly distinctive and unique to PotA used anywhere else. Anyone know what other sounds are used in conjunction with col legno to get that effect?
D-BoParticipantNo, that’s not what I meant. If you have the Planet of the Apes soundtrack album, a good example of what I’m talking about would be about 0:48 into Ape Suite #1. I don’t think that’s col legno strings.
D-BoParticipantWhoever did the music for the ‘Red Steel’ game for the Wii used that very distinctive “wooden” percussion sound from PotA, the one that’s usually used in that ascending three-note motif.
D-BoParticipantComicBookMovie.com: So are you keeping much of what Danny Elfman did, or are you re-doing everything?
Christopher Young: We decided that we were going retain three of his themes: 1) The Spider-man heroic theme. 2.) The Green Goblin theme, for Harry Osbourne, the son of the original Green Goblin who takes over his Father’s role. 3.) And finally, what is identified as the “Fate” theme from the second movie. All the themes for the new characters in this third movie, I am doing. Sandman, Venom, the black goo has a theme, the black suited Spider-Man, the new romantic theme, a whole bunch of new themes.

So are we not getting any new themes from Elfman like we all had originally thought? And what is this “Fate” theme “from the second movie?” Doesn’t sound like it’s the same as the “Responsibility” theme. I’m gonna take a wild guess from out of nowhere and speculate that the “Fate” theme from the second film shows up in the last 20 seconds of the “Doc Ock Is Born” track and the last 16 seconds of “Doc Ock’s Machine.” Again, pure speculation. Anyone care to speculate along with me?
D-BoParticipantAre you serious? Gee, I could’ve sworn it wasn’t Prelude & Outer Space. I though that particular cue was chock full of theremin and that D-A-A-D theme, not piano noodling as in that fashion video. Is there a different or extended version of it that I may not be aware of?
D-BoParticipantThose are some crazy-looking outfits.
What you describe as the first and second tracks are actually the same cue, and it should remind you of Sleepy Hollow because it’s the “End Credits” cue from that movie, indeed written by Danny Elfman.
Also, I’m pretty sure that the piano music in the latter half of that video is not “Prelude and Outer Space.” To be honest, I’m not really sure what it is. It does sound very much like Elfman.
D-BoParticipantYeah, I did this a couple years ago when I was, unfortunately, not quite 18 and wasn’t allowed to enter…but did anyways, for the experience. I definitely plan on participating again this year.
D-BoParticipantWhole-heartedly agree. It’s one of Elfman’s more inspiring scores to my own compositions. Getting the CD for Christmas gave me an excuse to listen to it at least a few more times through (‘course I’ve been familiar with the score for longer than that ). Just about all the cues are wonderful, but if I had to pick favorites they’d be the Main Titles (his title sequences are always amazing), “The Note,” and the last four tracks on the CD.
Well, now you’ve gone and done it. Now I’m going to have to give the masterpiece another listen.
D-BoParticipantArrghhh!! Darn you cursed iTunes “Album Only” label!
D-BoParticipantGot mine Saturday. Listened to it a few times all the way through. It doesn’t sound different enough from Corpse Bride to me (not that I didn’t like Corpse Bride). I wonder if Elfman wasn’t “done” with that style yet, and wanted to do more with it in Web. It’s certainly a very sweet score. “The Plan Begins” cue particularly stuck out for me.
D-BoParticipantWowee! This much-needed update looks really great. Thanks bunches!
D-BoParticipantDirect link to the trailer:
D-BoParticipantThanks, Dantz. I’ll definitely have to check out Metropolis. I was looking around Archive.org, found Nosferatu and downloaded it. The silent film is a whole new world I haven’t explored yet; should be interesting. Unfortunately, I have to ruin the project by putting spoken dialogue in it.
D-BoParticipantDespite the fact that I’m not a huge proponent of the movie or the book in the first place, I have to give this an LOL. This is one of the most ridiculously hilarious things I’ve ever heard.
D-BoParticipantAuction just now closed at 6:20 pm; won by a “jjbates” at $400. Oh well, I tried. Hehe.
D-BoParticipantHappy Birthday, Ryan! Thank you so much for the work you choose put into this site and forum.
D-BoParticipantI agree that it works quite well without, as well. I just needed something to do for my electronic studio resources class. Hehe.
D-BoParticipantOoh…is this a different recording than has been going around? It doesn’t have that annoying sound of a whirring hard drive. It sounds much better.
EDIT: If y’all need to hear more Ser. Schiz. go to http://www.myspace.com/dannyelfmanunlimited for the second movement, Blue Strings.
