ParticipantVery true. Still, AMAZING! It’s really weird when someone very famous is right next to you, but the person that you have an entire website and fanbase devoted to…I can’t imagine what that was like. You are so lucky! Does he have a powerful presence? Plus, what’s he doing in America? I thought he was in London recording “Charlie” and “Corpse Bride.” Mmm, even more mystery!

ParticipantSounds like it’s going to be an outstanding movie! I can’t wait to hear Danny’s various genres of songs!

ParticipantYESSSS. Glad that WB has more confidence than Sony in announcing so early, as well as releasing it so early.

ParticipantShouldn’t the major entertainment news companies be on this story like mad? When Bridget Fonda announced she was pregnant, it was all over the news. Now that the baby is (supposedly) already born, why hasn’t anyone covered it? Clearly the entertainment magazines are more concerned with Bridget than Danny because she’s a major actress, but they seem to be missing something!

ParticipantActually I think his “Wilbur Robinson” score will probably be pretty cool. I love his Flubber score, and I think it might have that same sort of zany and catchy sound. As for Charlotte’s Web, I still think it’ll sound like Black Beauty, which isn’t a bad thing.

ParticipantWow, I hate to say it but I feel bad for the kid if Mordred is really his name. I would have thought Bernard was the name Danny would have picked (in honor of Herrmann).

ParticipantYOU ROCK! You’ll go down in website history as being the one who provided us with the Point Pleasant theme. Thank goodness I don’t have to sit through that show to hear it anymore.

ParticipantYour time was better spent. This show was a real stinkeroo. I even posted my opinion of it in an away message, to which a Buffy/Angel/Charmed friend of mine scolded me. But I know I was right.

ParticipantJeez, it took 10 minutes for the titles to come up! I had to sit through 10 minutes of that crap just to hear some new Danny material! It was worth it though. The music kind of reminds me of a darker, heavier version Jenny’s Theme from Big Fish. Woo, fun seeing Danny’s name stamped on TV! I’ve got it on TiVo until it’s in mp3 form.

ParticipantBut…I like Elfman superhero and sequel scores! He’s got such skills!

ParticipantI’m a little disappointed about these projects. I really dislike Dakota Fanning and I’m not thrilled about a remake of Charlotte’s Web. The original one was fantastic, and knowing the business nowadays, it’s going to be poorly made. “Racing Stripes” comes to mind as a comparison t what I expect. I’m expecting a “Black Beauty”-esque score for this one. As for the other movie, Disney will really have to win me over with this. They did well with all of the Pixar movies (minus Finding Nemo, which I can’t stand) but now that the deal is over after one more movie, the regular Disney schlock films will most likely keep running. I may only see their first non-Pixar “Chicken Little” because Zach Braff is in it and he’s hilarious, though the rest of it doesn’t seem to look too good. My rant is over, and what I expect is that Danny will have to single-handedly save these movies. Then again I could be wrong.

ParticipantThe movie is awesome, so it. I’ve seen it twice. I’m not sure I remember any dead people in the movie save some main players. Maybe it was a stand-in position? Anyway the score didn’t thrill me, though I did mildly enjoy the end credits.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantHooray! I can’t wait to hear it! And those squirrels sound awesome too!
Spider-Fan
ParticipantAre there strict guidelines to that? Like for instance, was the presence of that song in Spider-Man 2 what disqualified it from the running?

ParticipantEhhhhhh, it sounds somewhat like Debney’s, but not as much as Debney’s sounds like Glory. My citation: compare 3:30 to 4:15 of Crucifixion to 1:00 to 1:20 of the Closing Credits from Glory. Nearly the same. Nonetheless, I loves the rest of the Passion score and I hope it wins.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantI gotta agree with that. Edward Scissorhands was uncalled for with a jet unveiling. I would have gone with Apollo 13 or Armageddon. Still fun to hear Danny’s work appreciated by the REALLY big guys, right?

ParticipantI’m with FFC. I liked the Passion score above the others (though I never heard the score for Finding Neverland). I’m surprised that The Village got the Academy’s attention, because James Newton Howard has composed many better scores (Dinosaur deserved recognition). Thomas Newman has never thrilled me, and I wasn’t absolutely thrilled with the Lemony Snicket score, but I think it’s the best he’s done so far. John Williams’s Prisoner of Azkaban score was my least favorite of the films that he scored, though he will be missed on the next one. I’m going with Debney’s Passion on this one, though I’m not sure how the Academy will like it. I loved the powerful percussion/chorus/ethnic sections, but some parts were directly copied from Horner’s “Glory.” I really wish that Spider-Man 2 hadn’t been rejected, but that was Danny’s only score this year, and after all Debney did work on it, so GO JOHN DEBNEY!
Spider-Fan
ParticipantThis year’s Oscar nominations for score are Finding Neverland, Harry Potter, Lemony Snicket (quite surprising), DEBNEY’S Passion of the Christ, and a true surprise with JNH’s The Village. Spider-Man 2 did at least get 3 nominations, 2 in sound and 1 in effects, so let’s root for that one.

ParticipantThat must have been before he lost all faith in the academy’s ability to choose well. I always loved his quote along the lines of, “If there was an Academy Award for Best Danny Elfman Score, I wouldn’t win.”
Spider-Fan
ParticipantBut John Ottman is working his way up. He might have been referring to the late Kamen’s X-Men score, which often had an annoying amount of synth that I know Bryan Singer wasn’t very fond of. I would have liked that score a lot beter if he had stuck to the orchestral theme that only made its way out a few times. John Ottman’s X2 score is among my favorites.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantI think it looks good, but I admire your way of thinking. The same goes for me with M Night Shyamalan. I love his movies, but I disliked The Village. Just because you like a filmmaker doesn’t mean you have to love everything they do.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantWhy? Danny’s rolling around in cash from his success, and Polar Express wasn’t a very successful movie for the money that was spent on it. I think justice is served.

All of those samples contain the theme that I was referring to, especially “Main Titles.” I loved these bouncy tunes, and they were the only samples of film music that my friends would literally hum in the hallways at school after hearing (Elf was the movie that all the classes watched the day before winter break).

ParticipantSay, I know that’s a classical piece they play in the trailer and it’s killing my mom to know who wrote it. I believe it’s called “Dance Macabre” but I can’t find who composed it. Hopefully one of you knows?
Never mind, found it. “Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Greig. Ryan, you can delete this if you want.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantIf Danny were not to return, they’d get John Debney or Chris Young, people they know can work with Spidey. In an effort to keep the movies connected, I would think they’d be on their knees and kissing Danny’s feet for him to come back.
