ParticipantIt’ll probably be another year where they have cameras on all the other nominees and a stock photo of Danny to represent him… right?
Spider-Fan
ParticipantYes, he did write the Starz theme:

I’ve lately been wondering if Danny wrote the music for the more recent Lionsgate logo. It kinda sounds like his work:
Spider-Fan
ParticipantNah, Giacchino very much has his own distinct style. It comes out with everything he does.

ParticipantAwesome! I literally gasped when I read that news. My roommate thinks I’m crazy now. But no matter, Elfman’s scoring T4!!! Cool! I agree that a “Planet of the Apes” or even a “Wanted” sound would be optimal as opposed to the “Kingdom” sound.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantAgreed. Michael Giacchino has quickly risen to become one of my favorite composers. While I didn’t love his score for “Mission: Impossible III”, I loved what he did with “Speed Racer”, so I trust he can give us another solid adaptation. I’m also psyched for his score for “Up” simply because everything he does with Pixar is gold.
Also agreed on “Wolf Man”. It’s right up Elfman’s alley and has the potential to go back to “Sleepy Hollow” territory, which I love. It’s just a shame that it got pushed back to November — argh!
The rest of that list is so-so to me. Amazing that Alan Silvestri is on there for “G.I. Joe”, something I’d be more excited for if his sound hadn’t become as repetitive as it has of late. Plus, the guy’s scoring “Hannah Montana: The Movie”. Nuff said.

ParticipantSounds very cool.
Side note: I work at Disneyland, and apparently Tim Burton was there visiting in my area yesterday, and I MISSED HIM! It made me very sad.

ParticipantI don’t mean to say that “Finding Neverland” was better than everything else that year, but it’s one of the few recent Oscar-winning scores that I actually enjoy listening to.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantSorry, I totally hit the “Report this post” button. My bad. But in related news, no Golden Globe love for Elfman this year.
Spider-Fan
Participant“Finding Neverland” anyone? I liked that score. By the way, did anyone hear that Michael Giacchino is conducting the orchestra at the Oscars this year? That guy is rising fast, and deservedly so.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantI’ll suggest this as a sticky topic as well, but… I found this arrangement of the Spider-Man titles on Imeem and I think it’s pretty nifty. Perhaps a thread about other good arrangements of Elfman material, independent or otherwise?
Spider-Fan
ParticipantAlready? I was looking into buying a player, mostly because all the praise I’ve heard about the upcoming WALL-E Blu-Ray…

ParticipantI really liked what Arnold did on “Casino Royale,” and I thought “You Know My Name” was a perfect Bond song. I haven’t heard his new “Quantum of Solace” score but I think he’s brought an appropriate sound to the franchise. Elfman would have been better before the “reinvention” of James Bond, but today’s Bond demands the sound that Arnold has brought to it. Now, if he had written a song for QoS, it would certainly be way better than that dull Jack White/Alicia Keys song.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantHa, good point. Who could write a more American score than Williams? Seems like the legend is only working for Spielberg these days, though.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantWhile it would be awesome to hear another Elfman superhero score, deep down I want Johnston’s old collaborator James Horner to handle this film. Based on their work together on “The Rocketeer,” that duo would be brilliant on “Captain America”, which is apparently to be set in WWII.

ParticipantLooks like Michael Sheen will be playing the Cheshire Cat:

Looks like a very interesting cast so far.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantThanks Ryan! You’re the best in the biz! That’s a really great track. Too bad we won’t be hearing any more of that Spidey thematic goodness from Elfman…
By the way, do you perhaps know what the story is behind this version being replaced with the one that ultimately landed in the movie and on the soundtrack?

ParticipantHe recently did an interview with the LA Times, and it sounds like he has a clear idea of what he wants from this film. It definitely boosted my confidence in him.

ParticipantTim Burton’s among my favorite directors, and while I’d love to see what he would do with a “Pirates” film, I really do hope that Gore Verbinski returns for the fourth one. He did such a great job of immersing the audience into the world he created, and everything was shot with perfect style and great beauty. Burton did however work with the films’ DP Dariusz Wolski on “Sweeney Todd,” so hopefully the look would be maintained. Plus Burton has proved that he’s pretty darn good at shooting action sequences. “Alice in Wonderland” will prove to me whether his handling of VFX has improved since “Charlie,” in which they were a bit dodgy.
But regarding Elfman, could he possibly be hired by Disney to score the film? Hans Zimmer and his crew created such a distinct sound for these films that goes into territory in which Elfman doesn’t really belong. Not to mention that Zimmer’s handling of the music improved as the films went on, with the score for “At World’s End” being really quite impressive. But as with Burton, it would certainly be very interesting to hear what someone new, especially Elfman, could contribute to the series.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantAw man, that’s right around the corner from where I am. I must seriously consider attending!
Spider-Fan
ParticipantExcellent, exactly what many of us wished for! I love Joe Johnston’s work (ROCKETEER!!!) and I’m sure that he’ll do a fantastic job on this film. I couldn’t think of a more appropriate film for Danny to score. Yaaaay!!!
Spider-Fan
ParticipantIMDb says that about Kamen, but it also mentions John Barry. IMDb also talks about Elfman on Finding Nemo, so who knows what the real truth is?
Spider-Fan
ParticipantVery interesting! Looks like Elfman really called it when he said there would be 15 year-olds who would love his music.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantLet’s see… “The Spirit” is being scored by David Newman. “Wolverine” is being scored by Harry Gregson-Williams. “Watchmen” is being scored by Tyler Bates. “G.I. Joe” is being scored by Alan Silvestri (who is also scoring “Hannah Montana: The Movie”?!?!) An Elfman “Star Trek” score would be very interesting, but the sensation that is Michael Giacchino (very quickly jumped to the second favorite composer on my list after Elfman) is scoring the next film.
What about Seth Rogen’s “Green Hornet” due in 2010?
By the way, for those who haven’t seen it, this is a great website:
http://upcomingfilmscores.blogspot.com/Spider-Fan
ParticipantAlas, Henry Jackman is attached to score “Monsters vs. Aliens”. But “The Wolfman” does seem like a great film for Elfman to do, though Joe Johnston has a history of working with James Horner (whom I believe could also write a very interesting score). Aside from that, it would be interesting to hear Elfman score either a comedy or a film set in space… something that Kevin Smith has recently discussed as his next project. Hmmm.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantIt seems like the film will less like “The Polar Express” and “Monster House” and more like the last 2 “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, which utilized the technology in breathtaking ways when applied to the captain and crew of the Flying Dutchman. That’s me looking at the film optimistically; really, I’ve never been a huge fan of the Alice story, but I’m always willing to give Burton the benefit of the doubt.
