ParticipantI think everybody prefers the scores from his hayday. The late eighties and early nineties were when he had his style refined to it’s best. Those were the scores that got him noticed in the first place.
Dawg Man
ParticipantThe Dark Tower is a Twilight Zone-like, fantasy “Western”, which is why I want to see him do that.
Dawg Man
ParticipantIT’s funny to hear him using those old school samples in his demos.
Dawg Man
ParticipantI’d like to see him do the film versions of Stephen King’s Dark Tower books…
The series is over thirty years old and check out these Michael Whelan paintings from a new version of the first volume to be released later this year. They’re so Tim Burton-y it’s not even funny:

And then these (from various volumes)…

ParticipantWell, I actually have a few full performances recorded in Audio form. That’s to include the full versions of what was on the Farewell DVD. One day I’ll probably get to finding a way to stream them online, if there’s anyone out there who wants to host the suckers.
Dawg Man
ParticipantHe created a style all his own by simply borrowing the best elements from his favorite composers (film and classical) and blending them together — especially early in his career. Bernard Herrmann’s dark low woodwinds and growling muted brass meets Korngold’s big-Hollywood fanfares and swirling strings. Stravinsky’s jarring rythems meets Prokofiev’s lyrical melodies. His style of orchestration is like Frankenstein’s monster, a patchwork, and with his spark of talent it becomes all his own and nobody else’s.
Dawg Man
ParticipantIT’s the same “Scrooged” CD.
You know, it would be nice if one day they released Summer School and Scrooged together like PeeWee’s Big Adventure and Back to School.
Dawg Man
ParticipantAbout the Scrooged CD…
It’s a combination of the MFADT material and cues recorded from the DVD. The cues isolate out the dialogue but “DO” contain some SFX. There’s a full Sleepy Hollow rip out there too with the same problem.
Yet… It’s still nice to have the additional cues (especially “Young Frankie” which has essentially no background noise).
Dawg Man
ParticipantIt shouldn’t be that much money. Ebay has a lot of crazies who like scamming people.
As to the score, I have a copy. I found a soundtrack collector who parted with it because I was able to produce another rare score. It’s all a game. At this point here are all the Elfman CD’s I have in my possession, regular and rare. Many of the regulars are out of print now.

ParticipantOingoBoingo.com isn’t run by Elfman himself but it’s run by his “people”. Perhaps in the future services such as you mentioned will be available there. The site is still in developement so anything is possible.
Elfman’s official site hasen’t opened yet but I have high hopes for it as well.
Dawg Man
ParticipantIt’s the Academy Awards’ Promo CD. It’s not for sale anywhere. The only CD that is for sale is the soundtrack that has only two Elfman tracks. You need to find a collector who has a copy and try to bargain for it. Do a search on the internet.
Dawg Man
ParticipantYeah, that’s the Promo CD.

ParticipantDon’t get too hyped about the “Face to Face” video. If it’s the one they had out in the 1990’s and not some new studio re-cut to music, you may be a little weirded out. It’s only video of siouxie singing. There’s no Batman footage. Instead there are two strange-ass he-she blond-1980’s-looking guys dancing to the music (and I use that word loosely).
Dawg Man
ParticipantIt’s like the second Ape Suite in Planet of the Apes or the first Young Ichabod track in Sleepy Hollow. Elfman wrote it aside for the CD.

ParticipantAt least you can buy the DVDs in the series seperately. I prefer to imagine Batman & Robin never happened.
Dawg Man
ParticipantNo way. Elfman has come out strongly against any reunion concerts in the past. I don’t see any coming in the future.
Dawg Man
ParticipantYeah, You’re quoting his Jay Leno interview. I’m thinking Smith is still pissed about that whole thing and blames Burton.

ParticipantWell, chances are that Burton will show up on Batman Forever’s features as well. Hell, he may even share commentary with Schumacher. After all, he produced it.
Dawg Man
ParticipantWell… that wasn’t really an intentional break. He was working a whole year on Superman between Sleepy Hollow and Mars Attacks, touching up the script and storyboarding. It went nowhere though so Tim went AWOL and did Sleepy Hollow instead. I still would love to see what he had in mind for that movie though.
Just as an aside: Burton casted Kevin Spacey as Lex Luther before he left. The movie has since been resurrected — in one form or another — up by WB (with another director attached) and Kevin Spacey has been hired again for that very same role. Too bad Nicholas Cage isn’t attached as Superman.
Dawg Man
ParticipantMan… (there’s no question about it in my mind anymore) “The Film”, “Cast & Crew” and “Media” (that one especially) sections really brings back that early 90’s feel, ala Scissorhands and Black Beauty. Then “The Characters” section (except for Charlie) resurrects the Mystic Knights.
Dawg Man
ParticipantActually, the ska-type music sounds like he misses his Oingo Boingo years a little.
Dawg Man
ParticipantWilliams goes back and visits the dissonance of Close Encounters too.
Dawg Man
ParticipantIt will be hard to find the written score I think. I don’t even think it’s published. If you want Elfman’s written, un-fooled-around-with score, you’d have to pull a film score analyst’s “card” and go searching through the archives of Twentieth Century Fox. That’s probably too much trouble though.
Dawg Man
ParticipantIt really depends on the stuff you trade. I’ve started recording my own samples lately. Also, James Newton Howard and Hanz Zimmer trade samples with eachother all the time and have admitted to it freely in interviews.
Although, stuff like this “is” sticky when you get right down to it, I suppose.
