I doubt it’s even true
Dawg ManParticipantWell, back to Elfman and Young, — while I wish Elfman would have reprised his role — I do think Young was correct in using the old fashioned orchestra with no electronics for the new movie. Elfman could have done better with it, but at least Young tried to keep faithful to Elfman. Whether he succeeded is up to the listener, but it was better than just having an entire score recycled from the first two (even though Raimi gets close to doing that sometimes).
I guess most of you have read this: http://music.ign.com/articles/785/785841p1.html
Maybe Spider-Man 4…
– FlynnDawg ManParticipantI think the improv is probably one of the many little pieces Elfman wrote before combining and seperating each piece into the larger whole of Serenada Schizophrana. I’m pretty sure it isn’t available as written, but maybe I’m wrong.
Dawg ManParticipantWell, so many composers copy his style these days (And are asked to) that I’m wary of commercials that sound like him now. It’s a shame too because I remember when the Nissan ads came out and I knew right away who did them.
Dawg ManParticipantUm, this goes back to the early nineties. My guess is his scores became more and more complicated and more pairs of eyes were needed to make sure what was written was feasible.
Dawg ManParticipantOh, it wasn’t “lifted” from the original soundtrack. Elfman adapted the melody for Boingo with horns on his own.
Dawg ManParticipantIt’s hard to deny it. Herrmann is Elfman’s #1 influence and the melody is EXACTLY the same (see: “Carlotta’s Theme”). Also, you should listen to the “Sunrise” cue from Journey to the Center of the Earth. It’s almost entirely the opening build from Batman, all the elements atleast (the descending four notes and the hallmark “fanfare”). See Track 7 “Sunrise” here at Amazon.com to hear it.

Dawg ManParticipantI think this should be the last one too, but I’m glad they made it.
Dawg ManParticipantMore time for Elfman to work on the music. Always a good thing.
Dawg ManParticipantI still have faith Danny might write additional music. Remember, the movie hasn’t even been filmed yet. Hulk trailers were released with Michael Danna’s name on them (well, one was).
I’m excited about Christopher Lee though. He’s turning into Tim Burton’s go-to-guy now. Three movies in a row — four all together.

The audio is just looped so the four notes repeat more times than in the original recording. Incidentally, you mentioned Nightmare Before Christmas. The four-note thingy has been repeated in film music since the beginning. John Williams has done it, as have several others. Look up “Dies Irae” (I think that’s how you spell it) and you’ll be surprised. It’s an old Catholic Mass that still has a lasting impression on the film music world.
Erich Kunzel probably recorded the best version of it in his CD “Scary Music,” which funnily enough contains fresh recordings of Elfman music like “Beetlejuice,” “Tales from The Crypt” and (yes) the “End Credits” from Sleepy Hollow. Dies Irae is under the title “Theme from ‘The Shining'” though, a movie which ofcourse quoted the tune in full.
Another good quote is in this Romantic Era piece by Berlioz (http://www.bonnie.kics.bc.ca/audio/Berlioz%20-%20Symphonie%20Fantastique%20-%20Ronde%20du%20Sabbat.mp3). Skip to 7:24 and then 8:37, listening to the low strings first and later the horns.

He has more self respect than humming a melody to Chris Young and saying “Take it from there.” Danny will undoubtedly write theme pieces (similar to a Williams concert piece of a theme) and give them to Young to adapt. We’ll get an Elfman/Bartek orchestration of a cue — I’m almost positive of that — and that makes me content again.

Who knows if Goldsmith liked Elfman, but he must have respected him.
As to the topic: this doesn’t matter per say, but it of course does warrant casual curiosity and is certainly something worth talking about on a Danny Elfman discussion board.
Dawg ManParticipantSounds like a new flavor of Coke.
January 6, 2007 at 9:17 pm in reply to: BORAT will indeed co-star in Sweeney Todd… BUT will he SING? #57953Dawg ManParticipantI know. I see something with Elfman happening. I mean, It HAS to happen. If not additional music then something.
Dawg ManParticipantDanny says he isn’t but I have a feeling he’ll pull a Chicago. The movie may have songs and musical numbers but score is always needed, even if it’s only fifteen minutes worth.
Dawg ManParticipantIMDB trivia can be submitted by anyone.
Dawg ManParticipantHmm,
it’s an actual production blog on the Sony webspace. Call me crazy but I think this is pretty much confirmation…Danny’s got a hand in it somehow. Themes and maybe a cue or two? Who knows. The Venom theme would be pretty cool though.
Dawg ManParticipantRemember when Danny was ready to do the ballet himself? What the hell happened to that.
Dawg ManParticipantI’ve had time to mull it all over, listening to my Hannibal and Gladiator CDs a few times in the process, and — believe it or not — am kind of lightening up to this (and remember I’m the one who started that petition to get Elfman on the project). So overall, I think if Elfman scored the Simpsons movie it would have still been a better choice… but Zimmer can do amazing things when he uses orchestra souly. I expect that’s what he’ll do with this so I’m hoping it will be interesting.
Maybe he’ll even pull a Batman Begins type thing and pull Elfman in as a collaborator. That would be kick-ass.
Dawg ManParticipantIt’s out of print. Your only chance is finding a collector or looking on Ebay.
