I’m not sure – I actuallly quite loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but his ’emotionality’ seems to have changed in many ways – he’s hit and miss. Still, let’s just wait and see,

I’m leary of this sort of technique (the motion capture and then recreation of the entire thing as computer graphics). Maybe’ I’m a bit backwards that way, but everything I’ve seen to this point seemed so life-less, and with Burton’s love for the artifice, it has a chance to be mega-plasticky. But we’ll see. Alice is definitely a great story for Burton to make.

[to be honest the only exciting thing in this news-piece is that Mira Nair is shooting an Amelia Earnheart biopic. yay.]

That’s quite groovy, thanks for sharing! It’s strange hearing it stripped off the ’80s varnish!

Cubase is rather versatile, and if you set up your work areas right, working with video is pretty comfortable.

Well, it’s not exactly a common name, right? I’m not sure whether I want to see the movie, because stylistically it’s not exactly my cup of tea. But I really like McAvoy, so that’s two reasons to see it, already. I haven’t seen Night Watch, but heard nothing but good things about it and it was very popular here…

Don’t worry too much. I did exactly what you did, I had a large part of fthe video ready, when I read your post. Thanks for saving me some time, still. (I’m from Poland).
Blast it. Mine kicked ass (*pats herself on shoulder*). It really does suck. But so does the mixing software. I’d much rather they gave us clips to download and mix by ourselves in a Windows Movie Maker or the like…

Nothe rreview is far kinder than that from NYtimes:

The score by Danny Elfman is lush and cinematic, heart swelling and tuneful as well as rousing. Elfman paced up and down the Met aisles mingling with the ghosts of Puccini and Philip Glass whose operas had been in repertory during the recent season. Don’t tell me artists EVER get jaded or over opening night jitters no matter how successful they are and as many times as they’ve done it; each time is the first time.

Thanks for clarifying. I might be wrong, but that sounds a bit retarded… splitting duties like that. Unless they’re REALLY well tuned together and create something, which sound very coherent. I love Newton-Howard, but I can hardly think of anything left in my head, musically, after Nolan’d first Batman movie.

Never liked Zimmer. But to be totally fair, he never actually calls Danny’s them ‘jolly’. He quotes his acquaintances to keep bugging him when he’s going to come up with a “jolly batman theme, a la the Tim Burton films”.
Likewise, why would it be implausible, that they had a theme (with James Newton-Howard ) and then decided not to use it? Isn’t that what you call the creative process? I don’t remember a single thing about the Batman Begins soundtrack, so the process didn’t go exactly right, for me ;-), but you do stuff like this, don’t you.

That’s great – I was afraid that the majority of it will consist of references to Serenada. If the rest of the material is original, and yet fits the Serenada fragments, we’re looking to a lot of great music…

Is it really bogus? Meaning: was officially disproved or something to that effect? I’ve heard Mark and Danny are acquaintances. These needn’t be released recordings to pop up in a friend’s work, when you think of that You know, Danny could have just reached into his vault …

I would disagree that all the electronics sound the same in this case – As much as there are common threads with the Hulk and Planet of the Apes, it’s a copy of neither of these, to my ears – I think it does actually push forward very much, stylistically, I do hear an evolution.
Actually, I’m not crazy about the Hulk electronics in comparison to the Kingdom, and in the latter they are pretty fabulous – very intricate and at times totally ingenious (or it just might be my obsessive nature, you know, the type that jumps up and yells across the room to my boyfriend: “that SNARE! Did you catch that?! Fabulous. That snare!”. I can’t be sure. ;-))

Sadly, I haven’t had the time to seriously sit down and listen to it. I bought the album on e-music, and still don’t own it on CD, that might be part of the problem (I’m a bit old-fashioned…) But I love what I hear, so far. I’ve been listening to a lot of world-fusion, fell in love with Trilok Gurtu and listened to a lot of Table Beat Science, so all the “world-music” elements are…er… music to my ears.

When I watched this today at 7 am, my semi-awoken thoughts were: “So this is the movie with Johnny Depp playing a bit of a morbid Michael Keaton playing Beetlejuice in From Hell in…whaa??…”
But seriously, I think it will be terrific. I’m a visual nerd and the little shot of psychodelically coloured day-shot had me spinning out of my chair. If anything, it will be visually stunning. Let’s hope there rest of it is just as good. (and I can’t WAIT to see Rickman in this).

I thought that was absolutely hilarious. What actually made it better was the sheer obscurity of the joke: I laughed twice as much, thinking how many poeple actually went ‘wtf?’ and didn’t get it.
    I loved it!

(plus… on a personal note, today I kept getting messages from friends and acquaintances, saying how they “…thought of me immediately!” when they watched Family Guy yesterday :B Ahem. Too funny. They must see me as sucha total freak. ;-))

And it sounds much better than I expected. Very electronic, but in a good way.

My first instinct is to point towrads Oogie Boogie, because it’s such a classic, and I’ve been going “You’re joking. You’re JOKING!…” in that manner for years now… BUT! On the other hand, I do think Remains of the Day is more original – meaning that the Boogie song is so very, very closely inspired by Minnie the Moocher, even people who don’t obsess over such stuff have pointed it out to me. Plus, Remains has such a fab story packed right into it, groovy lyrics with a poignant message, and a killer instrumental break, so… yup, Remains wins. Bless Danny’s sore throat.
