    From an L.A. Times article:

” Elfman met in 1989 with the cartoon’s creator, Matt Groening, who shared sketches of Homer, Bart, et al. “I told him, ‘If you want something retro, I have it. If you want contemporary, I’m the wrong guy.” Groening wanted retro. Elfman jokes that the manic little riff he conceived earns him $11.50 every time it’s played, no matter where in the world. “I met some artists [in India] and we were talking about American movies and I mentioned a few of my projects,” he says. “Not one of them registered, until I mentioned ‘The Simpsons.’ Then their faces lit up. They were really impressed by that.”

You can find lots of Elfman interviews at The Elfman Zone:

The review contains a glaring error. It states that Elfman has never written for 2D animation. “Family Dog” from AMAZING STORIES was animated.

Don’t forget that Chris Young also scored THE GRUDGE and THE GRUDGE 2 for Raimi’s GHOST HOUSE PICTURES.

    The saga never ends!

Cues from SPIDER-MAN 1 and 2 will be adapted by Steve Bartek and recorded this week for SPIDER-MAN 3. This was requested by Sony — who has superceded Sam Raimi’s decision to let Chris Young write the score he wants — to keep the score’s sound related to the first two films.

And you thought the story was over… I have a feeling it won’t be until the first print of SPIDER-MAN 3 is struck!

Yeah, I recall someone whining that a choir in Elfman’s two SPIDER-MAN movies was ridiculous, so how can a bellowing Orff-ian chorus be anymore appropriate?

I will reserve judgement until I hear the entire thing because Chris Young deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Yup. Well things changed quite quickly on SM3. I tried to get confirmation about what exactly was happening, but it seems the divide between Elfman and Raimi was too great. At the point where Elfman left SM3, he was dealing directly with Sony Pictures.

There was more to the info that I held back, for my own reasons, but part of it was that the themes weren’t coming as quickly as needed, and perhaps since then Danny Elfman dropped out of the project. We will have to wait for confirmation.

I think we should try to keep the ROBINSONS posts under the same thread… I have a feeling we’re going to be repeating ourselves over and over…. Here’s a post I made awhile back about the ROBINSONS soundtrack.

The intro is music from the All-American Rejects song, based on Elfman’s score.

I doubt he will bail like THE VISITING, because I don’t believe we saw any studio material that had Elfman tied to THE VISITING, therefore it couldn’t be confirmed that he was even signed.

I see that Tim has hired Darius Wolski, who shot the PIRATES OF THE CARRIBBEAN MOVIES, nice move and Dante Ferretti as production designer, who has worked extensively with Martin Scorsese. It’s an almost fresh Burton team!

Just read that the MEET THE ROBINSONS soundtrack album (tentatively set for 3/27) will also feature a performance of “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” the main theme from Carousel of Progress, performed by They Might Be Giants.
