Well,
I’d share the same feeling as Spider-Fan… I’m a little disappointed… It’s very intresting, but I don’t hear any specific melody… I expected more thematic elements in the songs… But these are demos… so, let’s hope it’ll sound more “magic” and surprising when the film will be ready…

boingomusicParticipantWow. Very intresting and funny piece of work. Quite different of what you’ve done before. (I have all your web site mp3’s on cd, and I often listen to them.)
Very well done (Seems like one of danny’s Oompa Loompas got away from the movie to your studio to sing your song )
-Eric
boingomusicParticipantThanks evil-dead!
Thanks so much for your nice words. I really wanted the song to sound like Elfman. I was purposely going for that. It was like an “hommage”, since the film is a stop motion animated feature, which is very dark, and looks a lot Burton-inspired. I didn’t want to do this for the whole score, but I really wanted that song to be like “Hey guys, here’s a way to thank the guy who made me want to compose!”
I don’t know how to thank you all guys, for your reactions, because for me, it really means something. I know you all listen a lot to the elfMAN’s work, and having positive reviews of my work from you all makes me really want to keep composing, hoping to score bigger movies one day.
Thanks
-Eric
boingomusicParticipantOh, and Michael Andrews (the composer from Donnie Darko) is alos the leader of a Rock band, but I can’t remember the name…
boingomusicParticipantWow, Ryan, I just noticed you posted this 15 days ago, and just NO ONE has reacted !!!!
They muss be jealous… I’m pretty happy for you !!! And I’m pretty happy for me too, because I guess you’ll review it for us, right ????
Eric
boingomusicParticipantIf you really want to be precise, i guess you’d have to place them under different genres.
They’re 1977-1980 Mystic Knights era would be “Jazz”.
Then, from the 1980 Cat EP to Good for your soul could be “Punk” or “TechnoPop” (as elfman once called it)
From Dead Man’s Party to Dark at the end of the tunnel, I’d say it’s “New Wave”.
And the last BOINGO album would be “Rock”…
Oh, and I forgot the “So-Lo” album… and I muss admit I don’t know where to place it
Anyway, just place them under “BEST BAND IN THE WORLD”… That’s the most right thing to do.
Eric
boingomusicParticipantWow.
I didn’t expect so much nice words… Thank you so much. That gives me the energy to keep composing, and writing…Thanks guys.
-Eric
boingomusicParticipantMan… What happened to the Elfman commentary ???????
boingomusicParticipantYeah, man, of course, and “Oompa Loompa, doo bah dee dooh” is really like the best lyrics they could invent !!!!! Tsssss…. I can’t believe this ignorant wrote such a review!!!!
Eric
boingomusicParticipantYeah, really. I put the cd in my discman last night before sleeping, and played the five songs. Then came the main title. I had never heard such a wacky-beautiful and amazing track since a long long long time. I just couldn’t sleep anymore. I had all those strange sounds and melodies in my mind during the whole night!!!!
boingomusicParticipantHehe… I got mine monday night at 11.30pm… at Tower Records in Torrance. Amazing score… It’s a huge mix of all Elfman’s career. Black Beauty meets Spiderman meets Edward Scissorhands meets Boingo. EXCELLENT !!!!!
Boingomusic
boingomusicParticipantBatman Forever???
Oh my god… Run, RUN NOW, before you get killed by the entire board!!!!
boingomusicParticipantWait Wait Wait… You’re wrong…
I WAS BORN the year it all started : 1980 !!!! Yes, Remember, The Forbidden Zone!!!
Boingomusic
boingomusicParticipantMy dear Nigel.
Once again,
We’re all very impressed by your compostion… But one questions is still popping in my mind : WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE WITH US ????You should be out there, composing for huge great movies. You’re so young and talented, man. I downloaded all your compositions, and I’m listening to it all the time!!! I specially like “Coming of the Banshee” and “Devil’s candyshop”…
Please, do something with your talent. Don’t wait for someone to come to you!!!
I’m composing since I’m 12 years old. I did a lot of concert works, but never tried hard enough to get into the buisness. Now I’m 25, and haven’t done anything with my music…You should do something!!! Your music is fantastic.
Thanks anyway, for sharing your music with us. We’re lucky.
Eric
boingomusicParticipantMan… It does sound like modern Oingo Boingo!!!! I just don’t like the voices of the Oompa Loompas… They sound like a 12″ played like a 7″….
boingomusicParticipantHere’s another clip, with better sound quality :

boingomusicParticipantYes. I agree… This song is not fantastic.
But you definitely all should listen to her soundtrack for “la marche de l’empereur” :listen to the track “ANTARCTIC”, it’s one of the best.

boingomusicParticipantWell. Here’s the explanation. Danny Elfman composed the soundtrack for Midnight Run in 1988. He wrote a song for the movie, called “Try to Believe”, which uses the sames melodies and harmonies than the score itself! The song appears in the movie, during the end credits, but for some reason, without the lyrics. Anyway, it appears on the original MCA soundtrack album, and it’s credited to the band : Mosley and the B-men. Mosley beeing the name of the special agent in the movie, and the B-men being Boingo. In fact, Mosley and the B-men ARE Oingo Boingo, but they just changed their name for this album. Why? Simply because Danny had always tried to keep his scoring life away from his rock-band life.
A year later, in 1989, The album DARK AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL came out, with a new recording of the song, this time, credited to Boingo! The two versions are a bit different, The one in the soundtrack has women singing back-vocals during the chorus, and the piano parts are a bit different.
There you go.
Eric
boingomusicParticipantYes. I bouht it. It’s fantastic. The composer uses Elfman’s theme all along, with very intresting variations. He respects elfman’s style, and the result is fantastic.
I’m sure people who love elfman will love the whole cd, because it’s exactly in the mood we all love.Eric
boingomusicParticipantWell,
I understand what you’re all worried about… But there’s still light at the end of the tunnel : Remember the early 80’s, when people like Harold Faltermeyer started compose synth scores like Beverly Hills Cop, or even Jerry Goldsmith began to use a lot of synth (Gremlins) (even if in that case, the result was quite intresting)… The orchestra finally won the race. I remember elfman talking about this on tv, in the 90’s, saying that “the orchestral scores are back, thanks to people like John Williams – god bless him”. It was the first and last time I heard Danny talk about Williams…Anyway, Orchestral film scores will always rule. Why ? Simply because it never grows old. Listen to a pop or rock soundtrack, even if it’s for a 1995 movie : it sounds old. Listen to a 1993 movie like Jurassic Park, or a 1988 movie like Batman, and you’ll see that it seems quite fresh and new…
I don’t know if I explain this right, but I hope you’ll understand what I m saying…Eric
