Ryan, you magnificant bastard. Throwing in ‘Chill Factor’ is just the cherry on top. You made me spit my Zima all over my computer screen. Boredom and Photoshop really suit you.
Lucius
LuciusParticipantRyan, I too have to agree, this score is amazing. Yeah, it may not be as thematic as we all hoped, but there is more old school Elfman-isms that I haven’t heard in such a long time. It’s almost good he doesn’t have a solid theme so he can be free to run wild and not sound too repetitive; and this gives the score a huge range. Not to mention, there are some tracks that are just GORGEOUS. Please people, keep listening. I’m a huge fan of this score so far. This has been a GREAT Elfman year.

LuciusParticipantSuch a fun movie. I had such a great time watching the AMAZING action scenes and Elfman’s score worked sooo well. The ‘Rats’ track was used amazingly. I’m surprised no one is talking about it. What’s up guys, what do you think?
Lucius
LuciusParticipantOh, you little bastard. Nice work on puttin’ this together, Mr. K. I can’t stop listening to Success Montage. One of the catchiest Elfman tunes since Charlie’s Main Titles or Jenny’s Theme from Big Fish. It’s like he’s taking all the skills and theories he created on Serenada and SOP and had fun with it. Can wait to get the whole thing.
Thanks again, Ryan.
Lucius
PS. That ‘Rats’ track on Cinemusic.net is pretty amazing too!
LuciusParticipantI totally heard it, and was quite shocked. I know a lot of people complained that they couldn’t find the theme in Elfman’s Spiderman…but I guess Ramin Djawadi found it.
I find the score to be a large shrug in my book. I think the guitar riffs are appropriate, but they are too repetitive and really don’t go anywhere. It’s all rhythm and no melody. Of course I wish Elfman scored it, but hell, I was actually kinda looking forward to Debney doing it, since he’s worked with Johnny Favs before. Either way, I thought the movie kicked all sorts of ass and i can’t wait to see it again!
Lucius
LuciusParticipantWow, slow down people…don’t everyone talk at once! I gotta say this is some really gorgeous and interesting stuff. This first track alone is, to quote Ryan, “something special’. You can tell Danny was inspired by one of his heroes Phillip Glass, but there is some really great original stuff from the lad. In re: to the Serenada tracks, they are some very good arrangements of the previous work…it’s not just a cut and paste job. My favorite being ‘Photos’ which is a take on the ‘Improv for Alto Sax’ cue; really great stuff.
I’m sure a few of your will find something to complain about, but I for one am happy. It’s great knowing that the flood gates have opened on the Summer of Elfman ’08.

LuciusParticipantI smack your hand with a ruler. But, afterwards I give you a smirk, ruffle your hair and then send you off to recess. Then I cross my arms, smile while nodding my head saying, “ahhh youth…that one’s gonna be alright.” End scene.
Lucius
LuciusParticipantStarting to hold my breath….NOW!
LuciusParticipant‘The Jar’ was an episode on “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” a remake of the original show. It also was on TV in the 80’s around the same time Amazing Stories was on. Just to clarify.
LuciusParticipantYeah, I’m friends with those guys (mainly the drummer and bassist) they are HUGE Elfman fans (Boingo and his scores). Really nice guys. Also Jon Avila produced their demo as well.
Lucius
LuciusParticipantI like their song “The Beast and the Harlot” from there last album on Guitar Hero 2. It was very fun to play. I swear this song, in some parts, sound exactly like ‘Nasty Habits’. Very early Oingo Boingo; it’s not too bad. It’s good that Steve is getting some work, since Hellboy 2 won’t be out till next summer.
Lucius
LuciusParticipantI already got my tickets, I’m going opening night! Can’t wait. If any of you missed it, I HIGHLY recommend it. I know, I’m sure we have all seen the movie 457,927 MILLION times, and you may be ALMOST sick of it. (I know that is close to a blasphemous statement) But seeing this movie in 3D is like seeing for the first time. I actually discovered little details that I have never seen before, and I’ve seen the movie more than anyone! Even if you have to do a little traveling to get to a 3D theater it’ll be worth the gas/plane ticket money.
From the looks of it, Disney is gonna go this every year, but when would you rather go, this year or 2 years from now? That’s what I thought.
Lucius
LuciusParticipantI was just about to post that too! Damn you for beating me to the punch Ryan! Damn, 3 hour time difference. I soooooooo hope this comes to fruition. I do love the original (that casting of the fat old woman is genius beyond belief. “He tried to eat my Raymond!”) but it’ll be great to see it revamped, ‘Vincent ‘style and with an Elfman score! Please don’t tell this fall through the cracks like Ripley’s did, I beg you God.
Lucius
LuciusParticipantI like how Jennifer Garner is acknowledging Danny fondly in the first picture, while Jamie Foxx has no idea who the hell he is.
LuciusParticipantFirst off, congrats. Second off, where did you uncle get the sheet music to Black Beauty? (Has it always been out, and I’ve been just to dumb to notice?) And thirdly, you should upload your gag action video to YouTube, sounds really cool.
Lucius
LuciusParticipantAs Bela Lugoisi said in Ed Wood, “BULL SHIT!”
–Rumors of “Sweeney Todd” Cuts Dismissed
Much fuss has been appearing online saying that Warner Bros. wanted Tim Burton to cut some of the more gorey and bloody scenes from Sweeney Todd in order for the film to receive a PG-13 rating by the MPAA. But Variety has stated that these claims are false. “DreamWorks has always said it was an R,” says Anne Thompson of Variety. “Anyone who knows the show knows that it involves killing and meat pies.”Mark Salisbury, who is writing the companion book to Sweeney Todd, also dismissed the rumors of Todd receiving a post-production slashing. Salisbury wrote on his blog, “all those reports of Burton being asked to cut back on the blood in the movie, don’t believe a word of it.”
Don’t believe everything you read…um…except this, of course.

LuciusParticipantI remember seeing this one on 20/20 sitting on the floor of my parents room, completely sucked in. Thanks for the memory jog.
Lucius
LuciusParticipantI too have heard this score, and it is amazing. Total respect for Elfman’s theme, not to mention his style, but not in a hacky rip-off kind of way. (cough…Horner…Casper..cough). Elfman established a tone for the Simpson’s and Zimmer expanded upon it respectfully. Even his new theme is a broad variation of the main theme. Hats off to Zimmer for pumping out some great music this summer. This will tide us Elfman fans over until ‘The Kingdom’ comes out.
LuciusParticipantDammit, that’s where I went to school! Of COURSE Danny would show up AFTER I left. (sigh)
Lucius
LuciusParticipantI wish this was the second movie so I could refer to it as “Spiderman Blew”. Review over.
Lucius
LuciusParticipantI too have to agree on the thoughts behind “Crime Spree”. One of my top 5 Elfman tracks ever. Dick Tracy is an absolutely magnificent score. I can’t even begin to tell you how obsessed I was with it at one point of my younger years. That “Showdown/Reunited” track is breathtaking. So lush and vibrant, just sweeping with emotion. Hell, I’m gonna go listen to it right now. Thanks for the reminder.

LuciusParticipantI live in LA and have heard the HSO play MANY times at the Hollywood Bowl. Probably the BEST place to see a concert in the world! I had press passes to see Elfman’s ‘Overeager Overture’ on the final night. As you could image, I was extreme looking forward to seeing and full orchestra play some Elfman music; and free tickets to boot! I could barely contain the excitement. For weeks I would taunt Ryan..teasing him that I would get to see the show and he wouldn’t. Na nah na na nah. He would call me a bastard, and then laugh…but i knew he meant it.
The previous week, I saw John Williams perform and amazing concert at 8pm the particular evening. I had the same press seats and knew that the Elfman concert was gonna be so much better following week.
The day arrived, and I started to prepare. I got a LOT of cheap wine from the store (Gimme a break, it WAS an outdoor concert, I had to act a little classy. This concert was too posh for tequila.) I had my friend pick me up at 7:15 and we would walk to the Bowl. We got there at 7:45, perfect timing cause I knew we had enough time to find our kick ass seats near the front, chug down a few glasses of vino before the concert began, and then sit back and enjoy. I went to Will Call to pick up the tickets and they weren’t there. After numerous expletives, I discovered my tickets were being held in an office up this big hill. Having walked quite a ways with a barrel of wine over my shoulder get to get where I was, I wasn’t too keen on trudging up a large hill on top of the mountain…but I knew it would be worth it.
After finally getting my tickets and programs I make a ghastly discovery. You see the William’s concert the previous week was at 8:00…but this concert started at 7:00!!!! I had already missed Danny performance. I had everything else planned to the tee, but I forgot to double check when the concert started. I just ASSumed that this concert would start the same time as the last one. What a MAROON! Not to mention that I had to walk down that hill and all the way back home, sober and still carrying the 40 barrels of wine I brought.
Needless to say I went home and killed myself. And in accordance to my last will and testament I requested that this blog be posted on this website regarding the previous post under this exact forum topic on this exact date and time.
The moral of this story……never F#@K with Ryan Keaveney! He will put a curse on you so bad you’ll miss a concert and kill yourself. You all to DO NOT realize the power he wields.
Lucius
LuciusParticipantWell, well, well…seems the great and powerful OZ has come out from behind the curtain. Glad to have you on board of one of the internets most useless yet wonderful addictions. Enjoy the spam. What made you change your mind?
Lucius
LuciusParticipantAlso, the reason the changes to the songs will be limited are due to Elfman’s tight schedule since Sony has asked him to replace Chris Young’s Spiderman 3 score. The new score will be recorded this week.
