Wow, that’s some good stuff. I really like “To the Future” a lot, giving us the catchy, zany Elfman we know and love. Not only that, but them there ‘rock and roll kids’ from the street will get to be-bop to Elfman’s jive sound with the All American Rejects version as well. Elfman corrupting our youth with popular music; what bliss! Now I have to figure out a way to hibernate until the score is released. An elephant tranquilizer should do the trick.

I JUST got into Regina. I’ve only heard ‘Begin to Hope’ and have listened to the song Fidelity over and over again. She’s good. But she’s noooo Elfman. (Of course I’m saying that so Ryan won’t delete this post because it’s not on topic.)

    J.R.,

Just wanted to let you know, that I thought this was really good. I’m very familiar with the books and I think this works well with it. I think that what I assume is Roland’s theme (in the ‘Introduction’ track) with the guitar and violin is beautiful, yet tragic. Very fitting. I also like ‘The Third Door’ cue a lot too. A great deal of mystery and wonder…and not to mention dark. I know this has been your “baby” for quite some time, and I think it’s worth all your hard work. Now we just gotta give you an orchestra and you will be all set. I thought I had an extra one in my attic I could let you borrow, but when I went to check all I found was a pile of bones and tuxedos. Whoops.

Judging from the production photos and concept art here is my prediction of the score. I’m guessing it’ll have a 50s-60s kitsch sound a la a ‘Tomorrowland’™ kinda feel, with some hints of Flubber, some Worm’s Lounge, sprinkled with Corpse Bride to round it out. I know I’m just speculating waiting for the future to arrive…today. Oh well, let’s just keep moving forward to 3 months from now. I can’t wait!

I’ve been listening to this score for a LONG time now, and I think it’s one of the best scores of the year, if not THE best. (It also helps that there have been some slim pickins this year. The only other hightlights are Lady in the Water and X3 [yes Ryan, X f-in’ 3]). I agree that the ‘Main Titles’ are great, not to mention ‘A Plan Begins’ and the gorgeous ‘Radiant’. BUt, I think ‘The Dump’ is amazing; Danny captured his old style quite well. (It kinda reminds me of ‘Mayday’ from Article 99.) But the track that is the cat knees and the bee’s pajamas has got to be ‘Wilbur’s Homecoming’. This is the track where Danny really gets to shine. I mean, when the choir soars around the 2:30 minute mark, it has got to be the most gorgeous writing Danny has done since Edward Scissorhands…and then it just keeps going. This 8 minutes of writing is one of the best expamples of Danny’s genius with long form composing. It’s been a long time since Danny has had a chance to just go nuts for a long period of time (he would normally only get to do 1 or 2 minutes sections, which I’m sure he hates.) And Ryan is right, this is a score that grows with you on every listen. It’s a smooth comforting score, that warms you like sipping cocoa in front of a big fire.

So, two thumbs up from this Elfman Nerd!

    “What’s “Daily Variety”, though?”

Daily Variety is pretty much the “Hollywood Newspaper”. It’s what all the big wigs read every morning to find out what the goings on of Hollywoodland is. (What movie deals were made, TV ratings, box office, etc.) Of course, if those high-powered executives don’t have their morning Variety…their assistants get ripped a new one, even if it’s not their fault. Trust me, I know.

Let’s all bow our heads for those bitched out assistants. Bless you all.

Grrrrr…I’m actually quite upset. I was sooo looking forward to ‘Ripley’, but if it’s not a musical and the script is done right, ‘Sweeney’ may have potential. I just have a fear that ‘Ripley’ will fall off the face of the planet. Here’s hoping I’m wrong.

You know, i had a feeling Elfman was going to surprise us with an extra score this year. With “Charlotte” finished and “Robinson’s” not coming out till next year I’m sure he was getting antzy.

Now, I too HATED that there ‘Napoloean’ movie, not because of the actors but the director. ( I mean, come on…use more than one camera angle on the dance sequence…don’t just zoom in and out!) Hell, I still believe that if Wes Anderson made that movie it would have been brilliant.

But, I LOVE Jack Black and Mike White. Hell, they were born to work together and create “Black and White” productions…too perfect. And now that Elfman is involved, his comic timing and mastery(?) of musical ‘beats’ will make this movie 100% funnier. THis movie already had my money, now it’s gonna get a lot more of it.

I’ve got a couple. One is Burton Titles, which is obviously all the opening title tracks to Burton films in order. True I had to put Shore’s ‘Ed Wood’ Theme to make it complete, but what are you gonna do. I also have one of ALL of Elfman’s Main Titles. Then one for my favorite Elfman tracks from every movie…in cronological order. Yay, iTunes is fun.

    >>Something I really noticed was the different sounding version of “First Confrontation” in the end credits of Shadows of the Bat.
I don’t know if it’s a different take or something new.
For all I know it just sounds better because it’s equalized or mixed differently,
    which is very likely.

It is actually from the unreleased track when the Joker is sending all the Smilex products from The Axis Chemicals Plant.

“Have you shipped a million of those things yet?”

    “Yes, sir.”

“SHIP ‘EM ALL! We’re gonna take ’em out a whole new door.”
