I considered purchasing this through iTunes this morning, but I decided to wait for the physical album. I saved 20% and shipping wasn’t too costly since I picked up additional albums at La La Land. It looks like the promotion last until 4/21, so I may shop again.
It is a great time to get Mars Attacks! if you don’t have it in your collection.
Weepy DonutsParticipantI preordered my copy through Amazon, and I received the Peabody-as-Napoleon Bonaparte slipcover.
Weepy DonutsParticipantFirst impression: Very charming!
Having not seen the film, I was struck by how much this album was more a soundtrack and less a score. A few tracks sounded as if they were driven by narrative, but mostly the album felt like a series of pieces commissioned for an art installation. ( I honestly kept thinking “This would be a fantastic ringtone.” ) Beautiful music from Danny Elfman. I highly recommend buying this release.
Weepy DonutsParticipantLooking forward to this. I enjoy the expanded releases, but it’s wonderful to see an entirely new release.
Thank you, LLL
Weepy DonutsParticipantFantastic artwork! Not enough music to tempt me though.
(If only someone would produce eight discs of music from the show. Hmm.)
Weepy DonutsParticipantReceived it today. I am glad that I decided not to cancel the order. Thank you for your comments.
I don’t have anything to add to the conversation yet. Yes, I am disappointed that the edges of the ‘stickers’ are already peeling back, but the artwork on the plates is pretty fantastic. I have skimmed through the book and it too looks fantastic (I didn’t realize Tim Burton was at Carnegie when we saw Serenada Schizoprana). I can’t wait to dive into the music when I have a couple of spare hours.
Weepy DonutsParticipantI’ve read about some design issues with the music box, but I haven’t read much about how satisfied everyone has been about the music, book or DVD. I was curious as I am *still* waiting to receive mine and considering canceling the order.
I preordered the Collectors Edition Music Box in early November. I received the Bonus Disc in December, but was surprised in April to learn that my order had been canceled in January. (I am told Warner Bros. Records used the wrong expiration date for the credit card.) Customer service wasn’t much help, so I went ahead and ordered the second edition Music Box. Now I get an email indicating that the Music Box has been delayed again – now May 24, 2011.
I really want all of the contents (the book sounds like a must have), but I am thinking that I should wait and see if they release just the Skeleton Key USB Flash Drive. Thoughts?
Weepy DonutsParticipantYes, I did.
Weepy DonutsParticipantI was very happy to receive this album the other day. I understand why someone might be unhappy about the disc, but I really think it was a nice apology for the short production delay. It also highlights the overall quality of this collection – they are taking their time to make this set right.
I wasn’t expecting anything beyond the package I had ordered. I hadn’t ordered immediately, so I wasn’t expecting an autograph from Danny Elfman (and the signatures looks *great* despite having to sign as many albums as he did). I wasn’t expecting to be putting the Music Box Suite on my iPod’s Elfman playlist. And I really wasn’t expecting additional music, because if they had including unused tracks I would have been upset that they hadn’t originally included them on the first sixteen albums.
This a nifty little item and I can’t wait for February.
Weepy DonutsParticipantI know it will get posted as soon as they start arriving, but… Has anybody received their Bonus Disc yet?
Sorry, I had to ask. I’ve been really excited for the Bonus Disc after getting the Batman Returns album last week .
December 19, 2010 at 1:50 am in reply to: Batman Returns Limited Edition 2cd from LaLaLand Records #66589Weepy DonutsParticipantThis is why I bought the Mars Attacks! Expanded Archival Collection when it was released. I knew good things would follow. Keep up the great work, LaLa Land Records.
If you are visiting the message board, you must get a copy of this Batman Returns release!
If you have any influence at LaLa Land Records, please produce an Expanded Archival Collection for Dolores Claiborne next.

They have produced different versions. I believe there is a version with a hidden thirteenth track. There is also a new version which doesn’t include John Debney’s Disneyland Paris – too bad because Debney’s music is a fun listen, and it features Vincent Price’s narration.
I would assume that Danny Elfman’s music will be made available – how limited the release, I don’t know.
Weepy DonutsParticipantI would imagine that Elfman owns the rights to most of his work and will be happy to release them to the fans.
I’ve been impressed that, generally speaking, a portion of his music has been released (e.g. The Family Man; Dead President suites) even if a proper score album was not produced. I have always assumed that Elfman’s contract stipulates that some portion of his score must be released.
My request: Please release the complete “Dolores Claiborne” score!
Weepy DonutsParticipantInteresting.
I may be just a little short-sighted, but: “Sweet, I can finally hear the original version of Sledgehammer. Eat it, the TV Theme Players!”
Weepy DonutsParticipantGlad to hear that I’m not the only one surprised.
I thought I saw his name last night, but I could not find info anywhere to verify. Glad to see it here. Looking forward to reading more when it becomes available.
Weepy DonutsParticipantThey need to update the bio – Milk is mentioned as an upcoming project. I believe that means that Danny is now a FOUR time Academy Award nominated composer. It doesn’t mean anything different for fans, but whoever provided the info to the press needs to get the information updated. This project sounds great and will probably be receiving additional press very soon.
Weepy DonutsParticipantNat,
That is exactly how I felt when I downloaded the samples. Walker’s version of The Nutcracker Suite always pops into my head whenever I hear the actual piece.
This album looks like it hits many of the recognizable themes… Joker, “Joker’s Favor”, Two-Face, Mad Hatter, Penguin. But there is still so much more music! I hope that they do not wait as long as they have for a second collection.
Weepy DonutsParticipantJust made the purchase!
I can’t wait to get it. It sounds like Danny either provided some comments to or was interviewed for the liner notes.
Weepy DonutsParticipantThank you for the heads up. I can’t wait to order this.
P.S. I’m really gullible. Is this for real?
Weepy DonutsParticipantI am really diggin’ the “To The Rescue” cover by Datarock. It sounds like it could’ve been in Forbidden Zone.
Weepy DonutsParticipantWell, sorta…
They snubbed Elfman twice. It was something like this…
“Good Will Hunting” was nominated for Score – Dramatic. “Men In Black” was nominated for Score – Comedic. He lost both.
At the time I was in high school and thought this was a conspiracy to humilate Elfman. Who knows?
Weepy DonutsParticipantI just want to double check…
I saw that iTunes lists a couple of bonus songs. Are these hidden tracks on the CD or should I buy the score at iTunes? I have collected most of Elfman’s albums over the years and I would really like to add the cover art & liner notes to my library… but I want as much published music as possible.
Thanks everyone.
Weepy DonutsParticipantI noticed that your scan shows a notch in the lower right corner. I didn’t notice that until I got mine.
Ryan, why is there a notch in the corner? I have seen this before in the spine of a jewel on eBay. What is it from?
Thanks
Weepy DonutsParticipantFor those interested in Roald Dahl’s ‘lyrics’, visit this address: http://www.roalddahlfans.com/books/char.php
You will see a section labeled “Poems contained”. Or scroll down to “Fun Stuff” and select “Official Oompa-Loompa Songbook”. Then try to wrap your brain around what Elfman will do with these words! I can’t wait.
Weepy DonutsParticipantIt is always wonderful when the soundtrack is released prior to the film release. I think that it shows a great deal of confidence in Elfman’s work.
